In case any of you are in the area at some point.

I just came across some videos on YouTube last week. There are plenty of shorts on YouTube but the first one that I saw was this 13 minute long video with a review/interview of the owner by a food blogger, for lack of a better term. Well worth the watch.

When I saw it, I knew immediately that if I’m ever back in the area, I will absolutely pick one up. You can tell just from watching the video that it is a very legit operation with high-quality ingredients and excellent sandwiches.

So two days ago I got an email for my next destination for work. I pulled out for Detroit yesterday morning. I prefer to drive up through Virginia and West Virginia for this trek. As luck would have it, this route also brings me right through Columbus. What a glorious coincidence.

I damn sure made a stop for lunch today. The downtown location.

Steak sandwich Wario’s Way and the Cold Cut sandwich.

My plan was to just have a few bites of each and then put the rest into my ice chest and into the fridge of my hotel. After a couple of bites of that cheesesteak though I ate the entire first half of it. I did just have a few bites of the cold cut sandwich and then put that in the ice chest with the half cheesesteak. Finished the first half of the cold cut sandwich for dinner tonight.

They both lived up to the hype 100%. The above video does not lie. I highly recommend to anyone who likes these types of sandwiches, if you’re ever in Columbus, Wario’s is an absolute must stop.

Phenomenal!

And I didn’t even see this one until two nights ago. Guy Fieri also profiled it for Triple D.

This one is good as it shows his process for making his cheese whiz from scratch.

Literally just came across their videos. Owner seems like a nice guy that takes care of his employees. I doubt I’m in Ohio anytime soon but they look good

Yeah he has quite the potty mouth, which doesn’t bother me at all. In fact, he curses in a very similar manner to the way I curse.

You’re correct though that he appears to be a very stand-up dude. You can tell his employees mean the world to him.

Yeah this has only happened to me once before that I placed an item on my food bucket list and then found myself in close proximity to it. That was Scott’s BBQ in Hemingway, South Carolina. I saw a segment in January 2016 that Anthony Bourdain had previously done out there. And we are talking out in the country. Nine months later, I wound up working with a couple of customers literally a few miles away from that same location.

With Wario’s though, it’s crazy how quickly I wound up passing through Columbus after just seeing the video for the first time last week. Damn lucky I saw it when I did.

I know it is a few days and dollars short but if you are through there again and enjoy local breweries (especially barrel aged stouts and barley wines), make time for Jackie O’s. It is based out of Athens, OH, but they have a brewpub in Columbus. They have some great beers.

From the website: In 2005, Art purchased O’Hooley’s. Shortly before this new venture, his mother, Jackie Oestrike, was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Jackie passed away in June of 2006, but not before her son let her know he had plans to change the name “O’Hooley’s” to “Jackie O’s” in her honor. Her reaction was a classic motherly reaction, “a bar?!” Art’s reply, “it's going to be so much more than a f*@%ing bar, mom!” has been what continues to inspire and grow the business to this day.

Had Oil of Aphrodite at the Athens location. Best beer I’ve ever had.
