Warbucks on Magazine - NOLA

This place finally opened. Have not gone yet but I will give it a shot this week sometime.
Skateboard punk cuisine:
Warbucks is an ultra-magnetic neighborhood restaurant that mixes technique and creativity in equal measure. Located on Magazine Street in New Orleans' historic Uptown neighborhood, Warbucks is the brainchild of Executive Chef Todd Pulsinelli, formerly Executive Chef at BRG Hospitality flagship restaurant, August. Here, Chef Pulsinelli takes the commitment to quality and the techniques of a fine-dining restaurant and reinterprets them for a playful and laidback environment with a casual selection of small plates, sandwiches, and salads. With a name inspired by his rapper persona, Chef Pulsinelli’s menu and décor harness the essence of 90s rap, skateboarding, and hip-hop culture to serve up imaginative and eclectic dishes including Shrimp Rings with Finger Lime Cocktail Sauce, Burrata and Short Rib Hand Pies, Oxtail-Stuffed Tater Tots with Blackberry Ketchup, and Zapps-Crusted Drum with Green Gribiche for lunch and dinner daily. In true New Orleans fashion, Warbucks features classic and large-format to-go cocktails and frozen drinks, as well as a full bar with rotating wines and beers

I wasn't aware that this was a thing. Something tells me it'll rival Turkey and the Wolf in hipserness.

I may have embellished on that description but that's my take.

I bet this is the only seating you see there...

I wish them nothing but success...
BUT...you've got to wonder at such an overt "style" and identity being presented ahead of the food. If a person doesn't identify with the style, or is turned off by the skater theme, you've lost a potential customer without ever putting food in front of them.
Feels kinda "try too hard" to me. Using the term "ultra magnetic" was an instant eyeroll.

Definitely. Dude is supposed to be a pretty good chef and has some great experience.
But since the first day I heard of the concept I thought it was way try hard.
I'll give it a shot though.

Kinda reminds me of our boy Ben and the mural he was getting shite about.
Obviously the food will be a lot different though, and if good, some would look past the aesthetics.

Yes--I thought the same thing. Of course, the business owner should do what he/she wants....but restaurants are notoriously difficult to keep profitable, and we've seen a plague of closings this year....including places w/pretty good food that just couldn't draw a regular crowd.
I was also thinking about places like Kebab. Solid food, downtown vibe without really trying too damn hard, but still kicking. Not sure that "sk8er" = Magazine St. Seems like an odd location for the concept.

Well, it is a Besh restaurant group place so it will probably last awhile.

Reading all that it seems they were inspired by Dallas restaurants where marketing and hype is the key to success.

So fricking cringey.
Of course, I know he's just being "ironic."

And Pulsinelli will be putting out some great food. But from a marketing standpoint, there will be peoeple who read the press releases and question if a skatboard, hip hop, mural whatever restaurant is a place they want to go to. They shouldve just let that concept grow organically. You can still be eclectic and relaxed and carefree, just dont push it down peoples' throats. I don mind it personally but you know there will be people who are turned off by it

Yeah I never care too much what the concept is as long as I'm interested in the food, and I am.
Just an FYI, one of the first customers: the Turkey and the Wolf chef, and it was all over his insta. I'm sure the people here will love that.

The place will do very well....classically trained, high end chef doing casual, fun nostalgia dishes elevated with fine dining techniques at an accesible price point and backed by a massive restaurant group with the full force of their PR machine.

Guarantee you they have focus grouped the crap out of this and forcing the matter will gain them more attention and customers than it loses. Frankly, the customers it turns off, they probably do not care about. They want that Turkey & the Wolf PR and customer base.
Do the casual, high end nostalgia schtick half arse to please everyone and you end up with a boring iteration like picnic provisions.

Shows y'all how much I know, I am officially old.
I passed it on Magazine Street coming from Lafayette Cemetery on All Saints' Day. I saw the name and the red/orange background in the "branding" and immediately thought of the old Daddy Warbucks character in Little Orphan Annie/Annie the musical.
