Vitamix vs Ninja and other blenders

The wife has been wanting a Vitamix but they are so expensive. Is there that big of a difference between them and ninjas or other blenders? Looking to use it for smoothies, soups and other typical type blending. TIA.

I got a Ninja blender for Christmas 2 years ago. While i was unpacking it the food processor blade fell and landed on my bare foot. It required 7 stitches. So the blades are sharp as hell.
Now to pertinent info...I have the blender, individual glasses, and obviously the food processor accessories. I consistently use the single blender cups for smoothies and the food processor for prep work. I've never owned a Vitamix, but for day-to-day use I can't imagine it warrants double the price.

I love the ninja. I have three separate blades and pitchers. Fantastic. Will cut through shoe leather.

That is what I was thinking too. It's always trouble when the MIL starts talking to my wife about how great something is.
Right now I'm just using a Walmart special blender. I like smoothies but hate when I'm trying to make a green smoothie and its still a little chunky. The ninja gets it silky smooth?
I'll make sure to keep the blades away from my foot!

I have 2 Vitamix and I can say they work as advertised. Could probably put a piece of concrete in it and it would work. Never seen or used a Ninja so I can't say. And someone died and I inherited them so there is that savings I had, may she rest in piece. I guess I can use this space to thank her for a couple of old 1950's era LaCreuset Dutch ovens as well.

We have a vitamix pro750 and love it. Very easy to clean. A few drops of soap plus warm water and hit the clean cycle. Ninja probably works as well.

I really like our ninja. Mainly use it for smoothies.
Hijack. The single cup groves on the gear have worn down and we can no longer use it. Has this happen to anyone?

If you arent a professional smoothie maker, or if you dont enjoy busting up concrete in a blender, then a vitamix isnt necessary. I bought a 25$ Oster that has lasted 7 years now making smoothies 5 days a week, and I have never had a problem with it.

Ninja is what you get if you want to make a smoothie every now and then. If you are ok with it not tasting like a Smoothie King smoothie and want to save some money. It will last and work fine, if it doesn't you can buy a few more and still not spend Vitamix money.

I've owned a ninja and upgraded to a vitamix about a year ago and never looked back. It's not even close. As far as Blendtec I think vitamix has a slight edge.
I bought a refurbished 5600 for about $330 and use it a few times a week.

I've had a Ninja for about 8 months, and my only complaint is the cup/container stains along the vertical "ribs."
Other than that I am happy- way happier than I was with the $15 Hamilton Beach I used for two weeks prior to buying the Ninja.

There is no way I would have ever bought a vitamix because of the price.
But my mom got us one for christmas and it's pretty awesome.
The wife uses it everyday for smoothies and we use it to make sauces and other things. We've made a real both in spaghetti sauce a couple times because I hate the chunky crap.
We are coming from a $100 kichenaid that locked up right at a year.

As you can see by my username, I was hoping this topic would come up.
I bought my vitamix in December on QVC and I absolutely LOVE it. I use it basically twice a day, since I drink a green smoothie every morning and I typically make a soup at night.
The reason I would recommend the vitamix is because eventually you may want to get into green smoothies, and my Ninja could NOT handle fibrous veggies. It was more like a salsa verde consistency.
Every morning I do a green drink of 1 pear, 1 cucumber, 1 celery stalk and some collard greens and the vitamix blends it to a juice-like drink without me adding ANY water. It's unbelievable and delicious.
I can't find it right now, but you should look on QVC's site for a demonstration, since there's a key test they do by pouring some on a plate from some blender (presumably Ninja) and then some on another plate from Vitamix. The Ninja one has a salsa verde like consistency.
Edit: I just realized that you explicitly mentioned green smoothies as something you wanted right now. My bad.

I have used both. I currently have a vitamix, but before this one, I had the Ninja Prep Blender - or whatever it's called ... $50 at Target. I know there are more expensive Ninja's but the cheapest one did the trick for me. The vitamix works wonders and tears everything up, but I was always satisfied enough with the ninja.
My vote is, whatever you can afford. Vitamix is worth the money, IMO. I believe they come with a lifetime warranty? Not sure.

As Martini said, I'm certain it would liquify chunks of concrete.
