So our 5th anniversary is Saturday and prior to bat flu we were set for reservations at GW Fins. Well since we all know that isn’t happening...I need some recs for similar “upscale” take out. Are many of these places even doing take out or did they shutter their doos completely?

Guess I could always fire up the grill and get some prime steaks and nice bottle of Cab...

Doris is open I believe but you may want to give them a few days heads up. As for a nice bottle of vin, most wine shops are open.

Toups Meatery. Also I had some great fried soft shell crabs from College Inn recently, that they had on special. Lots of restaurants uptown too.

That Lilette/Bouligny Tavern combo is really underrated, IMO.

I can't imagine any of that is going to taste nearly as good as when served at the table.

I’d forget upscale takeout; most restaurant food simply doesn’t travel or hold very well. Instead, call Martin Wine and get champagne, or a bottle of each of your favorites. Call Sr James cheese and ask for a a special selection of cheeses and charcuterie—tell them what wines you’re serving. Sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. Couple pints of gelato from Piccola Gelateria on Freret for dessert.

Friend,

I received Impastato’s two weeks ago delivered. It was fabulous. Had soft shell crabs with lump crab and some pan fried veal. Sides included crab fingers in butter sauce, romaine salad, homemade fettuccine, and cheesecake.

It was one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Although some here do not consider Impastato’s fine dining, it is. Surprisingly, it is still delicious as takeout.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

I am appalled by your disrespect toward the best restaurant in New Orleans.

It's in Metairie and it's not even a top 20 restaurant in Jefferson Parish

Let’s see your top 20.
As a former 70115 who was one of the few native born sons still living in that zip code can I ask how many generations of New Orleans back you trace? Were you born in New Orleans?

Impastatos holds three awards:
Best overall restaurant in New Orleans
Best Creole Italian restaurant in New Orleans
Best quintessentially New Orleans restaurant in New Orleans.

Again, I am appalled.

Were those awards before or after the sexual assault?

Impastatos falls somewhere between Swamp Room and el pollo loco off williams in my top 100 restaurants in JP.

So, like most 70118s, you’re from elsewhere?

I am a native 70115. My grammar school and high school are 70115. I have never lived anywhere but 70115. 5th generation New Orleanian, so my families roots run deep. That said, Impastato's is not the best restaurant in New Orleans Metro. It's very good, it's consistant, and the staff is great. But Clancy's, Petite Grocery, Manale's, are all better and within a 5 minute drive from my home. I'm sure Uncle has taken you and Mother out to eat at better restaurants than Impastato's, you just seem to be hung up on them for some reason.

Friend,

Uncle quit going to restaurants in 70115 when mothers Prytania st. house was taken away by carpetbaggers post Katrina. Now we sit in our apartment overlooking the neons of Impastatos pondering what elder Joe’s next move will be.

I'd go for Doris Metropolitan or Lilette. Happy anniversary!
