Friend,
What an excellent trip, I wish we could join you. Gio is one of the nicest people in pizza and he will treat you like family when you enter. It has been a few years since we ate there last, but you could name drop me and Mother from New Orleans and he might remember us.
His is the classic Brooklyn slice shop. He doesn’t open if he’s not there, and both he and his long time pal, Kane, have it down to a science. If he isn’t terribly crowded he may sit down and show you am his family photo album. He is especially proud of his father and if you get him started about his father, it can be a long conversation.
His slices are solid and consistent. Honestly, I do not think they are particularly great. Good, in the 7s, but what makes the pizza there is Gio and his personality.
If you can get a reservation at Una, do it. Their Christmas panettones were released today with orders through Goldbelly. At $109 a bit steep, but I bought some for friends and family. Last I checked they had a few available.
Please let us know how you enjoy your trip. Consider visiting the Green Wood cemetery after going to Luigi’s. Gio put us on it. Not only is it beautiful it is also where much of the fighting of the Battle of Brooklyn took place in 1776.
Yours,
TulaneLSU
P.S. If you got to John’s of Bleecker, I recommend you do two things. First, ask for regular pie well done. Second, ask to sit at table two in the main room. There you can sign you name next to mine. Please take a photo for us to enjoy.

How many vyvanse pills do you ingest throughout the day

TulaneLSU, you are truly a gift to mankind. Now, how in the frick can you eat all of that pizza without drinking anything? Not one receipt had a charge for a drink. No beer with pizza? Sacrilege!

I am not sure why and it is sort of strange but I find these threads very enjoyable to read. There is a hell of a lot of time put into them even though the guy is weird as hell.
They are incredible

No way I was reading all of that, but I scrolled until I found your comments on L'Industrie. Will be in NY next month and the plan is to grab a slice in the West Village from there.

my only question is how is it possible for one person to eat that much…I’d be tapping out by 10am

If you can make it possible, I'd much rather go to L'Industrie in Williamsburg. Much, much less of a shite show than West Village location + you're also near Ace's, Fini, Vinnie's, Carmine's, etc.

Good tip. We will be in Williamsburg at some point, but already have restaurant plans while we are there. And unlike TulaneLSU, I'm not eating at 12 different places per day.
We always stay in Soho when we're in NY every year, so West Village is easy to walk to even if we have to wait in line for a bit.

When will you be in New York next month? I have extended and immediate family around East Village, West Village, and Williamsburg, so we'll be out there ourselves for Christmas (December 18-25).

Out of curiosity, what are your restaurant plans for Williamsburg? I love Tabaré, so we'll be there. Also planning for Bamonte's - one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Old school as frick. Obviously gotta grab some oysters and a cocktail at Maison Premiere
Know you're a beer guy, so I'm sure you've heard of / been to TØRST, but The Hidden Pearl next door is a fantastic cocktail bar. Quick walk across McCarren, if you have some time to spare.
My only other debate right now is deciding if I go to OH Centre Street or just go to Domino Park. Domino is way more convenient, but tap list is kind of shite relative to Centre Street. Other than that, immediate cocktail/restaurant plans are Jeju Noodle Bar, C as in Charlie, and a few of the East Village bars (Double Chicken Please, Superbueno, Attaboy, etc.)

I honestly can’t remember the name of the place, but it’s a Mexican spot in Brooklyn. Not sure if it’s in Williamsburg. We will be there at the same time - Dec 20-24.
We tried to go to double chicken please last year but didn’t get in, so we will definitely be there this year.

I've had pretty good success showing up 30-45 minutes before opening. You'll hit a line but should be close enough to the front to get into The Coop right away.

Unbelievable pizza. We got the original (well done), margarita, and pepperoni. We all agreed it was the best pizza we’ve ever had
Had to give a sob story to the people eating at table 2 about my friend who signed the wall but passed away so I could search for your name. They all joined in until we found it.

Made it to Luigi’s
Gio was there and in a good mood. Also fantastic pizza. If I were forced to choose I may give the smallest edge to John’s of Bleeker

Friend,
You will never know just how much it pleases me to see that you had the opportunity to try John’s of Bleecker in its truest form — a plain pie well done.
I recently began thinking about why so many pizzerias, especially in New Orleans, serve pizzas that are undercooked. Refusing to believe that anyone like anything but a crispy, fully cooked pie, I concluded that the short cooks many pizzerias do is a result of financial motivation. The less time a pizza stays in the oven, the more pizzas that oven can produce. In a busy pizzeria if you short the cooking time by two minutes, your productivity goes up 20-25%. Good pizzerias would never put out undercooked pizzas, but there are not many good pizzerias in New Orleans.
If I had known you would need to bend the truth to see my signature at table two, I would have not requested you find it. I must also confess it made me chuckle when you told them I was dead.
We must round up a group and have a Food Board pizza tour in New York one day. That would be brilliant!
Yours,
TulaneLSU

You should check out the real Little Italy, Arthur Avenue in the Bronx. I'd like to read your review.
