The sushi wave has officially hit New Orleans.
Per Tsunami Sushi's Facebook page, Tsunami Sushi Restaurants will be opening a location in NOLA on the 1st floor of the Pan Am building on the corner of Poydras and St. Charles Ave.
Partner Fred Nonato is a graduate of Delgado Culinary School and is a native New Orleanian.
Opening is approximately 10 months away.
** Try the Michael Doumit roll.

Yea. that's the opposite of a destination location. No one will go there except for lunch, and there's plenty of competition there already. Not sure if they're aiming or anything more though.

The Ronnies are going to have a Jets v. Shark fight between their allegiance to Rock n' Sake and this newcomer.
Place will kill it during Mardi Gras.
I wonder if they are going to build out onto that sidewalk area or take over a different area of that building. I dont think Iberia would leave their spot (but that is really corner of Camp). Unless they are going to put it in the hotel portion?

It struck me as unusual as well.. Their interest in the location may be the hotels nearby and possibly CBD after 5? If they produce an over the top design, I can see it for after 5.. but yes.. Confusing.

Agreed. Terrible location if they want to have a dinner and weekend crowd.

Don't know anything about them. I will say tha the CBD has been getting more active at night. Probably due to more residential apts., etc. I know wise was surprised when we went to a couple of Pels games last year. Of course, once I leave downtown after work I need a very good reason to go back.

Will do well during lunch. If they have some sort of out-door seating I can see them flourishing.

I said the same thing about Walk-On's.
I failed that prediction. Tsunami has great margins on their products. $17 rolls that have 2 fried shrimp or fake crab, couple slivers of avocado, crunchy panko crumbs and various color infused mayo swirls makes paying rent a little easier.
The food really is sub-par, but that isn't the point.

Oh and the rice...turrible.
But they aren't alone in that problem. Minimal concern for the rice at sushi joints is more common that not.
