Interesting to see these guys named one of the The 10 Best Breweries of 2019 by Hop Culture. They’re making good beer over there. But I was somewhat surprised.

Two years ago, if you’d told us that we’d name an Alabama brewery as one of our Top 10 of 2019, we would’ve politely challenged you to a duel. But the southern state has come a long way, led in part by Birmingham-based TrimTab. Within the winning framework of “experimental IPA, expressive stout, and fruited sour” they’ve managed to innovate, creating a line of tiki and cocktail-inspired sours as well as a Japanese lager, a West Coast IPA, and even a Berliner that tastes like Lemon Berry Icebox Pie. But, what really makes this brewery sing is its line of incredibly impressive stouts.

I’ve never even heard of Vitamin Sea Brewing, but going to have to check them out when I’m in the area.

Trim Tab's Light Visions collection has been fricking money on every release.

My problem is I live less than 100 miles from Birmingham and my only in town option to purchase them jacks the fricking price up on everything by 20-25%.

I have access to more special releases from Southern Prohibition in Hattiesburg, MS, than I do ones from Trim Tab. It's infuriating.

Our vendors in the Montgomery area are fricking stupid.

I don't like any of their regular offerings. I've heard great things about their one offs. I was there not long ago and it was packed, but I must have gotten the wrong beers again. Will have to go back.

I'm not crazy about their off-the-shelf year round stuff. But, their New England Style IPA's are some of the best I've had.

I mostly agree. Paradise Now is year round, mass produced and I love it. The IPA is pretty bad, and the Rye Brown is just okay.

But yeah, their smaller release NE IPA's, stouts, and sours have mostly been fantastic. They made a couple of duds this year, but those were the exception.

I usually pick some up at Publix when at the beach and there is nothing I have liked yet from TT.

Same, I keep hearing about the NEIPAs but nothing has really impressed me yet.

I'm sure it's a quality brewery, but just about every brewery that gains any buzz makes one of these lists. I think Wild Leap in Lagrange got a #1 in a USA Today list of some sort. Which, make no mistake, it's a great brewery. I just don't put a lot of stock in these rankings.

Trim Tab is great, but this sounds like a good problem to have.
