I worked at the one in Mandeville for a few months in 1997.

The Wong brothers must be pretty old now.

I can remember when the original Trey Yuen was across the street from it's current location. For so many years the go to place for Chinese food in Hammond. It's been at least 20 years since I've eaten there but I don't get back too often.

It has went down in recent years, but I still enjoy it. It's definitely an icon in Hammond.

ETA: Hooters in Hammond would make a killing. Hard to believe there isn't one yet.

Will never happen. Hooters looked into buying the Ryans that closed by the mall and the city council shut the talks down saying they didn't want that type of restaurant in their city.

I lived right down the street from this place for a year about half a decade ago.

I never once had even a decent meal from there.

Apparently, the Trey Yuen in Mandeville is the "real" one.

Prior to Trey Yuen, the Wong brothers started across the street with a place called "China Inn' I believe around 1975 or so. Introduced Chinese food to Tangi parish and it was an instant hit. I worked in the food service industry and got to know Tommy and John Wong pretty well. Their success was legendary. Had a nice run at the renovated Jax brewery and the Mandeville location was a destination place.

However...for the past 15 years the younger Wongs did not have the eye for quality their fathers had and it slowly slipped away in Hammond. Should have closed years ago.

But...that Tong Cho sauce over a nice fried soft crab or fried crawfish was a damn show stopper.

Mandeville location is slipping as well. The interior needs help, and the service. The food was better 10 year ago. I've quit going.

They sell the Tong Cho Sauce, by the jar, at the restaurant. I'll be stocking up before they close.

I will wrangle some myself. Tommy would just give me a couple jars when I was in town and stopped. Very good folks.

Spent a lot of my company's money in that place back in the day. Sorry to hear it's going away.
