Friend,

The best poor boy shops in town slightly toast a shrimp poor boy loaf and smear a little melted butter on it. I wouldn’t recommend for roast beef, but for any fried seafood poor boy, the melted butter adds a sweetness that is delicious.

IDK about all that, but the fried oyster poboy that Mr. Bobby Robicheaux made at the Sacred Heart Fair in Norco was the best that I will ever have.

It was simple, perfectly fried oysters, perfect poboy bread slightly buttered, a few dill pickle chips and some tabasco. So good!

If only one I’d choose remoulade because it checks a lot of boxes.

But typically I like my shrimp poboy with mayo, ketchup, and hot sauce.

I love ketchup on burgers, fries, and even blasphemous hotdogs.

But ketchup on a fried seafood poboy is vile to me.

Looking at you, Olde Tyme Grocery

Depends on the other toppings:

Plain- Mayo or Remoulade
Plain with hot sauce - Mayo
Lettuce and pickles - Mayo
Tomatoes and pickles - Remoulade
Lettuce tomatoes and pickles - Mayo or Remoulade

Are dill pickle chips included as dressed?

Every po-boy shop I've been to has pickles as part of their "Dressed" option.

My wife will always tell the person taking the order to hold the pickle when she orders a po-boy.

Every time I cook fish, shrimp or oysters and decide on a sandwich, it is always on French bread dressed and that includes mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickles.

The only thing I will normally add is a sauce I make with ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice and some of my homemade habanero sauce. I will take a couple tablespoons of it and put it over the seafood before closing the sandwich to eat.

Why are pickles always included but not onions? I love onions and they are often left out.

I think most people are OK with onions on certain type sandwiches and I can't think of a single po-boy other than one made with burger patties that I'd want onions.

l do like some thin sliced onion on a good grilled burger and prefer my burger come on the large sesame seed topped buns.

This is a bullshite question because if you get a po boy dressed you get some of that as well.

The real question would be if you get a dressed fried shrimp po boy what is one thing you add.

I’ve never found a reason for any condiment other than mayo on a po-boy.

I completely understand and often prescribe to the thought that traditional foods should be eaten the traditional way. I rarely ever ask the server to send it any other way than how it’s offered.

Poboy dressed is mayo, lettuce, tomato (and maybe pickle).

However, explain to me why we all use some version of ketchup/cocktail/hot sauce on fried seafood when we eat it as a fried fish/shrimp/oyster platter, but then stick our noses up at ketchup on a poboy?

I really think that’s partially what sets Olde Tyme grocery apart from the rest. They add ketchup to fried seafood poboy. All it needs after that is hot sauce of your choice. Don’t argue against ketchup if you typically dip your fried seafood in it otherwise. It’s hypocritical. Down vote away.

Argument against it.

I love cocktail on fried seafood. Hate it on poboys.

Love ketchup on burgers and fries. Hate it on onion rings and chicken sandwiches.

Cocktail sauce on a shrimp poboy is fine by me. Better than tartar which is a condiment I only use with hush puppies. If shrimp PB is served with ketchup I’ll add hot sauce.

Hot sauce/mayo for ersters always. Don’t think I’ve ever had one with cocktail.

Always dressed.
