Elsie's has some of the best red beans I've ever had. I've been there a few times, and I like it, but it's been hit-or-miss. Didn't care for their crawfish bisque or fried chicken in particular. I mean the chicken was OK, but just OK. There is better fried chicken to be had in BR.

Same goes for Soji. I like it, but the dishes are inconsistent. Some are really good; some aren't good at all.

I've never cared for Juban's. Well, maybe in the distant past but not anymore. My past two visits were just plain bad. It's one place that just doesn't warrant the love it still receives.

Will have to give it another shot. Any recs? I see another poster says their Red beans are the truth

They have a damn good brunch on the weekends. Really good grits. My wife got some kind of eggs Benedict that was good. I got a breakfast burger that was OK. Good fried okra -- it's not the standard Sysco crap they toss in the deep fryer. Really good burgers.

It seems like it used to be good. The wife's office Christmas party was there last year and most agreed it just wasn't that good.

Yeah I remember I went like 20 years ago and it was solid. I've been twice in the past 5 years and it was really bad. I took my mom there for her birthday last year and it was just plain terrible. I had their soft-shell crab dish and its execution was amateurish at best.

Three of us got the filet because we had a bunch of seafood apps. None of them were even close to how we ordered it.

Not a fan of Soji. Although I hear it’s very inconsistent with their food. Maybe we just went on a bad night.

Overpass Merchant is really good and probably top 5.

Also, maybe not top 5, but BR does have good places to eat: Stabs (their brunch is really good), Pyminolys (just plain good bbq), Ava Street Cafe (good Vietnamese food), Digiulio Brothers or Pinetta's (depending on what type of Italian you like), City Pork (not as good as it once was, but still pretty good), The Gregory (don’t go downtown much, but that place is great) or Blue Corn Tequila & Tacos (new, but good Mexican food).

I've never had such wildly different experiences each time I go somewhere like I do with Soji. Like you said, some of their stuff is flat out terrible while others are incredible. Last time my friend and I went, we decided we are going to just sit order 5 orders of dumplings and drinks next time.

Ruffino's
Roberto's
Louisiana Lagniappe

I don't know what else to put after that because I can't afford to try nice places very often.

Sushi Yama (get the spicy tuna appetizer)

Bullchicks(especially if you want a burger and she wants a salad)

Definitely a place I want to go but cannot afford

Sushi Masa at lunch is about the top of my personal price point for the time being.

Nino's - Never had a bad meal, change the menu frequently enough to keep things fresh and different, wait staff went through turnover lately which I didn't care for but the food was still outstanding

How could I forget Ninos on my list, easily a BR top 5.

I would love to try that place, but my wife is all about Superior. We go there an average of once a week.

Hate to sound negative but Superior is incredibly overpriced and not very good unless you just like going for the experience. La Carreta is way better (imo) and way cheaper than Superior

Oh Superior is overpriced. The food there is OK -- some things are better than others. The best thing on the menu is the margaritas. I think La Caretta has slightly better food, but the margaritas aren't as good. But my wife and her family love, love, love Superior. (It goes back to when she was in high school and her grandmother was living in that Williamsburg retirement community behind Superior. The only thing that made the Sunday visits bearable for her mother and father was the fact that margaritas and fajitas were waiting for them at the end.)
