I think Brandt's is comparable.

You are probably as close to right as possible with Brandt's. That is about as close to the 2nd tier NO places as anything in BR. Anything else is not even close.

I would put them at the end of the first tier. They are very underrated.

Haven't been to the first three but have heard good things about number 1 and 2. Never heard of Stroube's but the rest of the list looks great.

Ninfas Used to be able to go there and drink underage when I was at LSU, for that, they will always be #1 in my heart!

It's sad really that none of the above (or any in this thread) have any cutting edge top cuisine. Not even 'high end' food to come close to the 2nd tier New Orleans places like Brightsens or Clancys. So sad.

Depends on the food. For seafood and creole cooking, you're right. But I haven't eaten Italian in NOLA that comes near Gino's, Ruffino's or the Little Village. Same goes for Mediterranian; Albasha's blows everything here out of the water.

I totally agree regarding Gino's. That would be in my top 5 rotation if it was in NOLA. I crave that place all the time.

ETA: You can keep Ruffino's and Little Village.

Ginos is fantastic, but nobody would ever be able to accuse them of being "cutting edge."

See, I think Little Village is the best of the three.

Those three plus Degulio Bros are better than any Italian food I've had in NOLA.

I would add Pinetta in there. They have great red sauce that is sweetened by slow cooking the onions..real slow it appears. If they were in N.O. they would be an institution. They were packed last night. We had two great meals and a bottle of wine for 63 bucks.
