The city hosted the latest unveiling of the North America's 50 Best Restaurants list, with a gala ceremony culminating nearly a week of culinary events. Dakar NOLA, Emeril's Restaurant and Acamaya made the list, which was revealed Thursday night in downtown New Orleans at the Sheraton Hotel.
Dakar NOLA was ranked No. 4, Emeril’s took the No. 20 spot, and Acamaya was No. 30.

we have reservations at acamaya next weekend, excited to try it. Nothing about Dakar sounds appealing to me especially the price. anyone got a review on that?

That’s just goofy.
Good for them, I guess, though.

I actually haven't been to any of them yet believe it or not.
I have heard wonderful things about Emeril's (I've been to the wine bar), but I am not dropping 1000 on a dinner any time soon
Everyone raves about Acamaya
Anyone I have talked to about Dakar would say it being ahead of Emeril's and at 4 is patently absurd. Every single one says the same thing: Its good, I wouldn't go again

Ive heard the opposite. Dakar is raved amongst my colleagues.

Dakar is an experience. Emerils is really good. Acamaya is far from bad or mediocre it just seemed like a letdown for all the hype. Rather Alma, though I haven't been since the Bywater location closed.

I think they fricked that order up. Not sure I’d have Dakar NOLA in my top 50 in NOLA.

It says a lot that I would not disagree with this.
And Dakar isn't bad, it just is good. The price is what makes everyone think twice about it.

Actually been to Dakar NOLA . I think we know why it’s ranking is what it is.

In recent years I've noticed a trend among restaurant review sites, Eater, Infatuation (or whatever it's called) etc, where there's a disproportionate number of fringe ethnic cuisines in their 'top' lists for a given city. I'm sure alot of these places are fine, but I believe there's an active effort to elevate these places in the interests of diversity, or whatever, and I don't believe for a second they're among the best restaurants in most cities.

Im sure Dakar is good but #4 is ludicrous. Acayamay being in the top 50 more so, it would disappear in the blink of an eye in New York.
To your point, just throw in the word “diaspora” and you’re in like flint.
Emerils on the other hand is worth it.

I know 5 different people that have been there, all of them I would consider to be very experienced high end diners and all said pretty much the exact same thing. "Yeah it was good (or fine), I wouldn't go back"
All of the same people think Saint Germain and Emeril's are easily the two best in NOLA
SG not being on this list makes it absurd

This is probably leading to the move off Magazine and the eventual failure. You have to get repeat customers from within the city to stay viable and there is no way he is doing that.

three tasting menus
Saint Germain is 195 plus wine, emerils is 295 plus wine and Dakar is 175 plus wine. I didn’t realize emerils was so much more expensive.

Yeah Emeril’s is nuts.
Last time I went to SG they were like 100. They’ve priced themselves out for me too but they really good.
I’d go to them over Emeril’s

Kingsway has been making big waves recently

Kingsway was the best meal we’ve had this year without question. It was 95 plus wine

Emeril’s is a great special occasion experience. I really enjoyed the nods to the old menu.
I thought Dakar was fun and tasty, just overpriced for what it is.
I’ve been to Acamaya 3 times and I have to say, I just don’t get it. I’ve found it middling at best.
