sticking to the generic stuff, have really good chocolate turtles. people in Louisiana love pecans.
i would buy a box of those bitches.
also, good baklava would be nice.
if you are going to be desert place and compete with the desert/bakery places in BR your sweets are going to have to unbelievably good. like rick flair said, doing one thing really well would be necessary.

I agree with the cupcake idea. At one point, there was a story in 225 about a cupcake shop that was going to open in Perkins Rowe. Something must have fallen through because that was a year and a half ago and its still not there.

Cupcakes and ice cream would be a great idea in Perkins Rowe for the foot traffic after dinner and movies.

Mmmmm....cupcakes.

There is a cupcake shop on Perkins Road called "Sweet Wishes."

i think its kind of hard to break into the homemade ice cream market. people are used to fricking bluebell around here. so, unless your ice cream appeals to these people and is much better, they are not likely to be repeat customers especially at the prices you will be asking.
try to steal the recipe for Not Just Pie's banana caramel pie. it is ridiculous. people go there just for it and they sell out every day.

True! I forgot about them. Of course, they only have day time hours, so it really only works for students and staff.
And two Hershey's ice cream shops have opened recently... plus we have a marble slab and a cold stone... I'm thinking ice cream isn't the way to go here.

It's on Perkins passed Bluebonnet outside of Wimbeldon Subdivision in those "house-looking" offices.
I tried my first cupcake this weekend at the football game and it was really good... chocolate devotion or something like that with a big mound of cream cheese icing on top and a white chocolate tiger paw. Glad I was sharing it b/c it was really rich, but it was good. LINK

It's right near the entrance to the Dunham neighborhood. I pass by it twice a day but never think to stop.

Only one I can think of is the Dairy Store on LSU's campus. Baton Rouge is definetly lacking a place like Creole Creamery or Brocato's.

Sweet wishes looks like it has some yummy cupcakes, but it seems to be in a not so great location and is only open until 5 M-F and from 8-10a.m. on Saturday, so you really can't go there for an after dinner treat.

also, their cupcakes seem kinda small and unexciting. dont get me wrong i am sure they taste good. If i were going out of my way for a gourmet cupcake I would want it to be big and decorative for the price.

Honestly, I think Sucre is an idea (perhaps, not as nice as the one on Magazine) that would do well in BR...Gelato, some pastries, dessert drinks (you can leave of the chocolates). The guy who owns its says he is looking at locations in Metairie, Mandeville, the Quarter and BR (in that order of priority). Old Metairie is ideal given the plentitude of kids and women with nothing to do during the day, except, play tennis, shop, gossip and drink coffee.

A month ago I had to run to Perlis to pick up some shirts...I saw at least 10 women in sweatsuits or tennis-wear just killing time shopping...then went to St. James for lunch since I am never uptown anymore for lunch...and the place was full of women eating cheese and drinking wine...I had to take my sandwich to go.

What a life indeed. There is a whole subculture that exists while we are at work.
