Honestly, now that they’ve changed the rules so that restaurants who have won before are no longer eligible, hang an asterisk next to that. I mean, how can you be the “best in the world” when you make previous #1s ineligible?
That being said my wife and I are going to Spain in November and hoping to eat at Tickets and Asador.
Of the 4 in the US, I’ve only had brunch at Cosme but it was worth the hype. Blue Hills is very high on my list.

How are they ranked? Are you only allowed to make this list if you need a magnifying glass to be able to see your entree?

The only restaurant on the list I have eaten in is #34, Don Juilo, a parilla (steakhouse) in Buenos Aires. It's a great restaurant; certainly one of the best I've ever eaten in. Is it one of the best 50 restaurants in the world? I have no clue.

Aren’t you so cool and edgy for hating fine dining. Don’t worry, you can still get a reservation at Golden Corral.

The only one on the current list I have been to is #17. Steireck in Vienna, Austria. It is worthy of its ranking but my favorite restaurant in the world is Guy Savoy in Paris. Guy Savoy and Eleven Madison Park are usually on this list but not this year.

I just noticed that two of the top ten are in Peru

Tickets is pretty damn good but I had simpler meals somewhat on par with it in Spain.
It’s more about the experience in some ways.

Yeah that’s what I was referring to earlier. They changed the rules starting this year so that any restaurant that has been ranked #1 in the past cannot be considered for the Top 50 ever again. They’re in a separate “best of the best” category.
That’s why you don’t see Eleven Mad or Osteria Francescana anywhere on the list.
Noma is #2 this year despite having been #1 before, but that’s because they closed shop a while back and reopened under the same name.

That's... an absolutely moronic way to compile a "best" list. Christ, it's like vanity sizing for restaurants...

I was about to say...where the frick is Osteria Francescana?...seems like it’s top 3 every year.
Those new rules are dumb.

Had dinner at Maido in Lima in April. Did a 13 course tasting with wine. Lots of molecular gastronomy going on with foams and deconstructions etc. The meal was flawlessly executed and most of it was delicious but weird.
There were a couple of things that I didn't care for but I expected that. Overall, a very nice experience but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again.
One thing I didn't care for, when anyone walked in to the place the staff all yelled "Maido" which made me think "welcome to Moe's".
