There is a growing trend on this board to mock, criticize and demean the truly authentic and wonderful father of New Orleans food entertainment and art. Such people are trash, worthy of our ridicule and mockery. The anti-Tom sentiment is born of posters not born in New Orleans. They don’t understand New Orleans and never will. Tom is New Orleans. His personality and style are at their core essential New Orleans. The type who insult him are the same type of people make fun of Lee Corso and say he should be booted off Game Day.

Here are some fitzmorris facts:
*Weekly newsletter published for 42 straight years

*World’s first and longest running talk show devoted only to food, now in its 44th year

*Inspiration to scores of chefs, restaurant owners, and amateur critics and home cooks.

*Author or editor of 8 books devoted to New Orleans cuisine

*Staunch champion of the city of New Orleans after Katrina, perhaps her biggest supporter and reason for renaissance

No one, not even I, knows more of the history of New Orleans cuisine and her restaurants than Mr. Fitzmorris. He is a walking encyclopedia on America’s greatest culinary city. It is one of the most important New Orleanians of the 20th century and will be celebrated as such, especially when he is gone.

All you haters, go back to Baton Rouge, Monroe or whatever flavorless cesspool in which you were born.

Tom taught me how to critique food. He taught me to appreciate eating out. He taught me how to describe food and to make food criticism an art. Few things when I was in elementary and middle school did I enjoy more than riding home in the car after school with The Food Show entertaining and educating me. If you were born in the city and had cultured parents you know exactly about which I write. I will forever be grateful to the master.

TOM FREAKING FITZMORRIS, ladies and gentleman!!!!!!

Went to a couple of his eat clubs 10-15 years ago. One at pelican club and one at brigstens i think. He was charming and pleasant spending time with everybody who showed up.

But he is losing it and it is sad. Similar to Corso.

Think about this. As a college kid, he starts publishing his own letter about eating out. He gets some air time at UNO’s radio station and starts talking about food.

He turns that into a 45 year career, enabling him to raise a family, become an inspiration to thousands, write more words about New Orleans food than any of you have even thought, bring back New Orleans from America’s worst natural disaster, and document the city’s food over the last 50 years in ways that not even the New York Times can approximate with New York.

The haters are just jealous, jealous that they couldn’t do what he’s done, which is far more than my words can describe. The haters are jealous because what they do in their free time, Mr Fitzmorris has been paid to do for 45 years. And who is richer for it? All the citizens of New Orleans and her visitors.

In no other city in America would this be possible. And it was only possible in New Orleans for that Jesuit-Rummel alumnus, the big Irishman with the roast beef gravy smooth voice born on Mardi Gras.

TOM FREAKING FITZMORRIS!!!!

Why do every one of your threads always starts off bashing people and their opinions? It comes off very douchey and egotistical. You clearly want to target the people who will disagree with you, instead of having good discussion with the ones that would agree.

It’s clear you have a knowledge and passion for food. So why the derogatory disclaimers to start with? You’re never gone get through to the majority that way... if that is truly your intentions.

Why not just start a good conversation about NOLA food without the condescending diatribe?

I am responding to the hate directed as the greatest treasure of New Orleans. I make no apologies for my disgust of and rebuttals to those who attack my city’s greatest treasure.

I haven’t listened to his show in a long time, but years ago his show lined up perfectly with my 45 min commute from work and I used to listen all the time. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Tom has earned his place. If Frank Davis had started catching fewer fish in his final years, you wouldn’t kick him off the air. Legends are legends.

This is spoken like an Alabama football fan. It's unhealthy to worship other men or women.

You are at DEFCON 2 troll level.

Father Time is undefeated. Tom needs to step away from the mic as his cognition is fading fast. At time his show is unlistenable.

Not sure if you’re being facetious or not. His show has never been better. Mary Ann adds such a unique and vibrant dynamic to his show.

LOL

This isn’t saying much. You put Blaze in the top 5 of your NOLA Metro pizza rankings and left Ancora off completely bc political bias.

I listened to his show for about 45 minutes yesterday. It's the first time in a couple of years, I think.

His demotion to HD2 has cost him a gigantic portion of his listeners, his dementia has cost him some more, and he gets almost no callers presently, which were what kept the show new and interesting. They've filled in with guide dog Mary Ann and guests which people care nothing about. Then there's the solar magnitude issue of his arrogance, pomposity and rudeness.

Tom has been a great resource over the years. He had pretty comprehensive knowledge the history of the NOLA food scene. But he resisted new food trends, choosing to ignore them instead of continuing to follow the trends. For example, he refused to learn anything about the revolutionary segment of craft beers.

A couple of you guys (you know who you are) can continue your worship, but his time has passed.
