I showed up one night to a sign saying they were closed permanently without warning.
The original lease was up for GP at Kaliste Saloom. The shopping center mgmt company wanted Rick (owner) to sign a 20-yr lease. He’s in his late 60’s and said hell no ! Walked away and closed the business because of the greedy landlord. GP had been at that location since 2003.

Rumor has it that the building was purchased by the owners of Olde Tyme.
How true is this? Would be great news imo. I grew up down the street from it and used to walk here with my dad growing up. It started to go downhill in the mid 2000's. They started to use cheap store buns, smaller portions, lower quality ingredients and it went to absolute shite. The one on Kaliste Saloom was always shite but the original by Fatima was good at one point.
The reason I ask how true is this, is my dad talked to the guy who was doing the reno a couple months ago and per my dad the guy claimed to be the old owner of the kaliste saloom one that they had to close down and he planned on reopening the one by fatima after reno as original ground pati again I believe. Hopefully its Old Tyme people over Kaliste Saloom guy.

Have quite a few good memories of eating there as a kid. One time me and my mom stopped in before going to the movies and she told them that I just loved their pre-meal peanuts and they sent us home with a big to go box of them.

If anyone can turn it around, Ross can. Great luck to him he's a great guy ! We'll be supporting them when they open.
Saw that but thought it was just a rumor?

You know they reopened in Rivertown in Kenner, right? Stays packed. I miss the David Drive location.

I thought the owner of Olde Tyme’s name was Murph or something like that.

I felt bad for Rick, because it seemed there were never any cars in the parking lot . And next door, you’ve got Canes with a full parking lot and a drive thru line overflowing to Ground Pati.
Rick is good people.
Rick is good people.

Nola, sorry you are so hurt about this.
Haven’t eaten at this Toasted Yolk, but ate at the one in Covington and it was very good. I hope they can replicate that over here. I worry that that Ground Patti building might become branded as a place that nothing can succeed there. Like the Drago’s/Mellow Mushroom/Baco’s.

Glenn Murphree … grew up in Chalmette and came to USL for college in the late 70’s. He has 5 children, Ross runs all the businesses: OTG, Sandra’s Café and Health Food Store, and BJ’s in Broussard. Murph’s daughter Becca married Justin who runs Parkway Tavern in NOLA.

Yea that dragos MM location is fuked. Who thinks they have the magic touch to be successful in that spot after so many have failed. Nothing is going to last there imo

In similar news, the old Wendy’s/Burger Tyme Redux building on Johnston is getting demolished.

It’s on my way to/from work. Building structure has been leveled and should be an empty lot in the next few days. Constructive on a new Starbucks begins soon

Meh...
He acted a complete jackass to the USL/Johnston Ground Patti owner when he opened his location on Kaliste. I wasn't heart broken to see his version not thrive.
He should have stuck to the drive-thru daqs.

Toasted Yolk
With places like Parish Biscuit, T-Coons, Broken Egg and now Ruby Slipper in Lafayette, as someone in the Houston area who has eaten at several Toasted Yolks, I'm not sure why anyone in Lafayette would want to go there over what is already in the city.
