Since January? Because i think i've been able to get crab claws twice, once last weekend, and one other time, since about January or longer.

If you are getting crabs before June /July chances are that they are not local. Usually now through early September is the best time for crabs....although the harvest will probably be limited this year in areas east of the river due o the spillway being open

That's not really true: it entirely depends on the weather. If we have a mild winter (like this year) and a warm spring, beaucoup crabs are available from late March or so.

RE: spillway, it's definitely messing up Lake Pontchartrain/east. But plenty of crabs are fished west of the MS, so it's not like 2019 is a complete wipeout. (Something like 30% of crabs landed in LA are fished from the Lake Pontchartrain basin.)

This may sound sacrilege, but I've never been a huge fan of the food at Chimes. Chines "west" as some of y'all are calling it, certainly has a charm and personal connection that brings a lot of people back to it. It's not a bad place to go after spending time on campus.

But "East" just does nothing for me. The food is meh. Beer is fine, but I'm not going there with family to drink. I've always found the service to be pretty rough, and there ALWAYS seems to be a wait.

Pretty much the only time we go to "East" is when the in-laws invite us and they generally pay so I'm not going to complain.

Why did they pick such a random part of town?

I'm the weird guy that likes Paul. That said, this might be the most "retard" post ever.

My personal observation of the last several times I've gone, is the Chimes-East was so far east, that I felt like I was in another continent...not that there's anything wrong with that...

There are a couple of posters in this thread that have a very good understanding of the crab supply chain and have explained it. You are not one of them. Post less and read more. Your beef about crab fingers is literally the same scenario at every decent seafood restaurant in town. The supply ebbs and flows.

My last post was 17 hours ago, you miserable bastard. And i have not disputed anyone on the crab availability. I even looked up the Chimes menu again, and did see that they actually do say "seasonal". So i was wrong.

Some of you posters must be wonderful to hang out with in real life. And yes, i've met you IRL before, and you didn't come off as the crabby SOB as you do here. I guess being internet cool is the in thing. Lighten up people. The dead horse has been beaten.

Willies has been a much better choice out East.
