The Best Filet In The World

Every time I go to a new steak house my primary basis of judgement: is this better than Ruth’s Chris? So far no, nothing based on the filet alone has beaten the perfection that Ruth’s has.

Well what other steak houses have you gone to?

This is because grades of a cut like a filet are all but immaterial. I can accept an argument that their cooking method for THAT CUT is tops and not quibble with it.
Try other cuts at other places and you will find plenty that exceed Ruth's Chris' comparable cuts. I also think others work better with different methods than Ruth's sizzling butter deal (which, is really good for filets).

I'm not a big steakhouse guy, but my favorite filet is the bone-in filet at Joe's Stone Crab.

Well, I mean, yes. RC's definitely beats those places in terms of filet.
But best filet in the world? C'mon man.

Totally agree. I always think of venturing for a different cut, but I’m a huge sucker for the filet. Always looking for something to one up Ruth’s. Just end up getting medium rare filet where ever I go. Occasionally will do ribeye.

I'll take a good marbled ribeye over a filet any day.

IMO the first thing you need to do is grow a pair and start eating NY Strip. A Filet is not a true test of a Steakhouse's prowess.

Good thing OP never said RC is the best steakhouse in the world. He said RC makes a better filet than just about everyone and he is correct.
I'm a ribeye guy myself but if you can't enjoy a filet from RC then you are weird. It's my oder every time I go.

Seemed like he was sort of implying that was his primary basis for judging a steakhouse, though.
As I said, I won't quibble with him (and now you) that Ruth's Chris does that cut best.
I just don't necessarily agree that it should be the driving qualifier for a steakhouse.

My two favorite in Baton Rouge are Ruth's and Doe's
I don't even waste my time anywhere else
With that said, Baton Rouge and even New Orleans don't have the steakhouses like you find in Chicago or New York

Laugh if you will, but the best filet I've had was from Santa Fe restaurant. It was billed as their Carne Asada but it was a good sized filet and it was awesome. $27 dollars.

Meh who cares about stirring shite on the OT, this wasn't a bad FDB post.
I've never been to RC so can't comment, but I would imagine a steakhouse should be judged on something like ribeye with more fat where skill actually matters.
