I listened a little while yesterday. He didn't remember anyone's name. He may have early onset dementia.

Sad to say, but I really think he may have a form of it. I've asked him about what he had for lunch that day or dinner the night before and he doesn't remember sometimes.

It appears that Tom's show is going the way of Vizard's...

Does she come on after Eric Asher?
I've not listened to her, but the complaints so far don't sound terribly surprising. From her bio
"She has worked professionally as a food reporter, news, weather, and music “DJ” on-air announcer in the New Orleans’ market, under the tutelage of the Big870 Morning show host Tommy Tucker."
"She has implemented strategic marketing plans for franchise businesses like Bonefish Grill, an Outback corporation, the Medicine Shoppe and Russell Stover Candy Company."
She sounds like a marketing person who hosts a radio show, so hopefully she's not trying to pass off being a real food critic.
That aside, I hope all's well with Tom. He was for a long time the voice of one of America's best food cities, so he's contributed and lead a lot of conversations and influenced thousands of people. It's a power and responsibility he's overall handled well.

Do you know Tom personally?
Posted on 4/18/17 at 3:23 pm to CHEDBALLZ
yeah the same way Verbal Kint knows Keyser Soze.

He doesn't remember, or he doesn't care.
I don't know what's worse.

That's true. Just seems the whole dynamic of his show is way different than it was before. I barely tune in on Saturday's now.

I'll start by conceding that I'm a fan of Tom's show; have been for years, although I listen sporadically since both the 1350 and now HD station changes.
Per earlier posts, Tom is struggling to fetch calls, which sucks. Yesterday he flat-out admitted to announcing the dial-in number repeatedly (several times within a minute), because he was "fishing" for someone, anyone to call.
He feigns enthusiasm for being on HD, but he can't legitimately think that format is the "future of radio." That theory is already in the grave. HD radio had a shot at taking off and failed (miserably at that).
It's a shame because NOLA, perhaps as much as any other market, certainly should have a prominent place on the dial for a well-executed food show, which Tom put forth for years and still does to a large extent.
Relatedly, does he EVER mention, discuss, field calls about, etc. the exploding craft beer scene in NOLA metro and throughout Louisiana? His show is purportedly about "food and drink," but I've never heard him address what is no longer a trend. Craft beer is also now inextricably tied to dining out, especially with young demographics. The continued absence of such a discussion on his show (again, presumably, because I listen sporadically) may highlight that he is simply out of touch.
Again, I'm a fan of his show, but it seems like several things are amiss.
Sorry for the post length. I'm up monitoring a sick three-year-old for additional vomit sessions. I'll hang up and listen.

I think that's just an old man thing. My dad is the same way and has been for 10 years.

I think everything you said is correct.
I don't think Tom drinks very much. He's not even any sort of wine enthusiast. He loves to eat. And, I think that's where it stops.
His knowledge of wine is limited. His wife doesn't drink very much, either.
You're right. It stifles the show. But, that's not what ruined the listenership. It had a great run in the 90's. That's when I started listening to Tom. People didn't have many outlets for discussing food and restaurants. Now, anybody can come here, or go to Yelp etc. and voices their opinions about x,y,z. It's sad. I think you're right about a city like New Orleans needing this show.

I got a snarky reply from Fitzmorris.
Well you did come across as a dick in that letter you wrote.

Yep.
His show was a good format for New Orleans, but he became horribly stale and basically stuck in the New Orleans of 10-15 years ago.
That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I agree. Don't hear much from his regulars anymore. I think one day he only took 4 calls which is anemic to say the least.

Long time listener. Never time caller. I don't listen during the week, but I do on Saturdays and what makes me laugh is for several months now, about every couple of weeks, same guy gets through and asks him for a restaurant recommendation, and then when Tom gives him a name, the guy immediately says how much money did they pay you to recommend them like the other restaurants you recommend.
Tom immediately hangs up on the guy and changes the subject but you can tell he's pissed for several calls afterwards.

Did this just happen last Saturday?
I think I heard him. His name is Gary if I recall correctly.

Listened a bit yesterday for the first time in months. He needs material, a cohost, and topics of discussion. Sure he didnt need them for the first however many years but its readily apparent he needs to create discussion to invite discussion. And the guests just arent that interesting, because you can tell he has totally tuned them out.
