Tea Kettle Recommendation?

Looking for something as a gift. I want it to work well and also look nice.
I don't drink tea so I know nothing about these things. Can anyone recommend anything?

Are you looking for a stovetop kettle in which to boil water, or are you looking for a teapot for steeping tea?
Teakettle: Simplex is the gold standard if you've got a gas stove, in shiny stainless or copper for around $350. If no gas stove, then maybe buy an electric kettle? They heat water quite quickly, and most regular tea drinkers swear by them.
Teapot: countless versions out there, in endless styles. Bodum makes a variety of styles, some with infusers built in. Look at 'em here: LINK
If the recipient loves tea and French things, then take a look at the Mariage Freres website for a wonderful selection of teas & cups/pots, including several teapot & tea gift sets: LINK # (ETA look under "teapot and cup" on the horizontal menu for a very stylish selection of pots/cuts)

Do you ride around in a horse drawn carriage?

Friend,
Coppermill Kitchen makes a delightful teapot that works as stately as it looks resting on a stovetop. It would be acceptable as a gift. Mother and I gave a similar gift to a cousin in Portland for her wedding last year.

Regardless of which you choose, make sure it works for your stovetop. Some are gas only, some are induction/electric etc

I have a LeCruset and really like it. Although I dropped it and the enamel chipped off, but after another year of use it hasnt chipped off any more than that initial bit.

This is the top rated one from America's Test Kitchen. It's what I have, and I love it.
We bought ours specifically because of the recommendation of that fat, lispy ATK woman. We absolutely HATE that kettle. When you pour, the first tablespoon and the last tablespoon always kind of glug out. I’m not a fluids engineer, but I think it’s because the spout is mounted to low, and you get a “finger on the straw” type effect.
This is the first OXO product I’ve ever had that disappointed me. OXO is gonna be a “no” from me, dawg.

That's odd. I haven't had that problem. One of the things I really like about it is the smooth pour I get. You aren't supposed to fill it above the halfway up the hole of the spigot into the body. You are right about the spigot being mounted low on the body though. But it's wide enough that you can still get quite a few cups out of it.

If you send it back they will replace it. I have a 7 quart Dutch oven that cracked and my wife got online, filled out the return, scanned the receipt (that for some reason she had from several years ago) and they sent a new one. Then told her keep the old one. She sent pictures as well.
And to the OP I have 2 Viante electric kettles that work fine and are several years old. About $40 or so on Amazon. Boil water fast.
And by cracked I mean the enamel. And I did it by heating the pot dry too hot.

I bought my slow cooker because of their recommendation and its pretty bad. The high setting is more like a medium/low compared to my old slow cooker. I've come home to several half cooked meals.

I use a French press for coffee every morning and finally bought an electric kettle a few years ago and it is so much faster at heating water vs. A stove top kettle. My English friends don't even use the antiquated stove top kettles anymore.
