What types of things does your wife like to do? I'd probably stay downtown and you can always take cheap Ubers over to the East side, S. Congress, and other areas if needed.

I think the hike and bike trail is a great place to get a good vibe of the city. Go rent some paddleboards and go out on Town Lake. Rent some bikes and cruise around. You can also head over to Hula Hut for lunch and start your day drinking.

Tons of great restaurants depending on what you're into. There is no shortage of reviews and info online so look at Eater.com and see what interests you. Suerte is a new one that's getting a lot of pub right now. Launderette is also consistently good. There really are too many to list.

Why would anyone go to The Oasis restaurant when Oasis Brewing is right next door and has food that is orders of magnitude better than the slop next door.

Magnolia Café on Congress is always a good choice. Not too far from downtown.

The Domain is a really nice area, just stayed there a few weeks ago. Tons of shops, restaurants.

This cannot be stressed enough.

Seriously, eat before you go. The bottom of their menu literally says "Proudly serving Sysco"

I've been to the oasis countless times, I live biking distance away from it, and I have never been to the restaurant.

Go to the top floor and go to Oasis Brewing. Better beer, better food, better prices, better views.

If going to a place like Perkins Rowe or Sodasopa or whatever else almost every other city has is something that entertains then OP, then I guess go. I'd never tell someone from out of town to go there. It's a waste of time.

If you do LA BBQ, do a pre-order so you can skip that amazingly slow line.

If going to a place like Perkins Rowe

Definitely has that kind of vibe, but, down one street I saw a ramen place, thai, indian, multiple bars, shops. There was a ton of options.

To all of you idiots suggesting Tochys'

Their queso is amazing, yes. But tacos suck.

I’m not a big fan of Torchys, either. Their tacos are hit-and-miss.

Tacodeli is the best IMO for that type of counter service fast casual taco. Veracruz makes some damn good breakfast tacos though. I'll drive past the Torchys near my house to go to either of those options.

What tacos have you had there? I don't get any of the plain ones, but I've had most of the others. Standouts are Green Chili Pork - Missionary Style, The Democrat (Barbacoa), Dirty Sanchez (Egg and fried poblano, pickled carrots, etc), Brush Fire, and Crossroads. Their taco of the month is usually good too.

Also El Chilito (another taco joint) is very good.

These were the four I had last year:

Democrat (meh), Pink (ok), Brushfire (very good), and Crossroads (meh)

i get torchys breakfast tacos (ranch hand on corn) to go sometimes. everyone i know loves getting them when i bring them. both locals and otherwise.

they are a lot better and quicker than taco cabana. bigger than maudi's.

their habanero sauce is pretty damn good too
