Rainey St. is a cool place to go bar hop. If you're into beer be sure to hit Bangers Sausage and Ale House.

Get a hotel in The Domain.

Shop and eat there. Go to Rock Rose Street in the night time. Never leave a quarter mile radius.

Uchiko, odd duck and Valentina’s bbq. 24 diner is great after hours. Uchiko and odd duck are small plates, even if that’s not your thing... go.

Bangers has a great beer selection and makes their own sausage, peche had some good cocktails... didn’t eat there though.

If you have some time to kill head towards Fredericksburg... you can hit up Garrison Bros (whiskey distillery) and a few of the wineries without heading all the way into town. Mainly Hye Texas.... william-chris is really good and is right next to garrison Bros. Ron Yates is a newer place right there and we had a good time and bought a few bottles.

I really like the Van Vandt Hotel, and its close to Rainey St.

When I'm there, I like the BBQ, Franklin BBQ, Stubbs, Salt Lick.

After hours, you can find plenty live music & adult beverages on 6th st..

I'd do Air BNB and find a place either on the rail line or near downtown. Then you could just walk / uber / ride train to go do stuff and wouldn't need to rent a car.

Stuff to do? It's hot as hell right now, so if you plan on coming soon, plan indoor stuff or swimming / lake stuff.
- Barton Springs pool is a neat place to cool off, but the water is spring fed and pretty cold.
- Lake Travis is a decent drive but cool to see. You can rent boats / jet skis out there and cruise the lake.
- Nland surf-park is the only surf park in the Americas. You can surf (or learn to surf) there and get food / drinks after.
- Go to Elephant Room - live jazz bar. Really cool place.
- Go to a Master Pancake Theater showing at Alamo Drafthouse. It's a comedy group that mocks movies as they play. It's a fun Austin thing to do.

Food

Torchy's Tacos
Curras Grill
Valentina's or La BBQ for bbq
Tacodeli
Hopdoddy - burgers
ABGB - good pizza, pretty good beer. They have live music sometimes too. Parking sucks.
Pinthouse Pizza - also good pizza and very good beer.

Bars
Easy Tiger - lots of good beers on tap and great food
Rainey Street has some good places. Just walk up and down and choose one.
Draught House - laid back neighborhood bar

2nd the torchys and pint house pizza. There are 2 locations, only one serves electric jellyfish. It’s not the original, but the 2nd location near the interstate.

Barton springs is cool to go to, but you can’t bring shite in there to drink or eat . Just plan on being there for a short time. It’s cold as frick... but feels awesome when it’s hot.

To clarify, though, you can get Electric Jellyfish at other bars. I've seen it at Parlor & Yard, Bangers, Craft Pride, and Lustre Pearl.

ETA: It's a good beer, but I wouldn't go out of the way for it.

If one didn't want to go on the water, but still see Lake Travis, I would recommend The Oasis. Food is just OK, but it's worth the drive for views and a couple beers.

la barbeque

I've been to Austin a number of times, but last month was my first visit to La Barbecue. Got there 30 minutes before opening and was able to wait inside. Once they started serving, the line moved slower than any other spot I've been to. That said, I really liked it.

ETA: Outside of BBQ, my favorite Tex-Mex I've had in Austin is Juan in a Million. Had it on a rainy day and it was welcomed, for sure.

This cannot be stressed enough.

Seriously, eat before you go. The bottom of their menu literally says "Proudly serving Sysco"

ETA: Here's the menu. Check out the bottom left corner.

If the rates aren't too bad during the dates you'll be staying get a room at the Kimber Modern

It's a small boutique hotel near SOCO and really comfortable

Don't take my word on it. Read some of the rave online reviews
