I was in Bum frick Alabama and seen a sign a that read fresh boiled peanuts, regular or Cajun. I got the regular. Asked the inbred what made the Cajun ones Cajun? He said they add Old Bay when they boil them.

I guess you don't remember coming in there and falling asleep at the table

Not really Cajun, but some restaurant outside Dallas a few years back, the only steak on the Menu was a Bourbon Street Ribeye. When I asked what was a "Bourbon Street" Ribeye I was told that they just used Cajun spices on it.
Wanting a steak I gave it a shot.
I later told the waiter I know know they call it that, cause it tasted like they drug it down Bourbon street before it hit the grill.

the Pat Obriens in Orlando (at universal?) is just about a carbon copy of the one in NO appearance wise
we were down there for the Iowa capital one bowl. the menu said "Jambalaya- served over rice"
we did not partake

Yes I do but what does that have to do with them closing down?

If you're foolish enough to order anything labeled as "cajun" in a restaurant located anywhere outside of a 30 mile radius from Lafayette, then you get what you deserve.
I sort of have the same rule. Since I live in NYC, my rule is that I will not eat any "cajun" food unless I verify the chef is from South Louisiana.

Just 30 mile radius of Laffy? Wow

Yep. When it comes to sports they want to represent the whole damn state, when it comes to food, culture, etc, only anything in Lafayette is acceptable

Pat O's sucks in New Orleans so I don't know why you'd expect better from an orlando one

Yep, and that leaves out New Orleans. He doesn't believe you can get a Cajun/Louisiana experience at any restaurant in New Orleans. Seems reasonable, you know these Laffy posters...

Yes, we've just about given up. Last place we tried was a year or so ago in Buckhead/ATL. It wasn't too bad, but no better than I can make with a Tony's Chachere, Maw Papaul's, or Oak Grove mix at home.
Was it McKinnons? If so, I'm not from Louisiana but I think it's delicious. I don't have authenticity expectations though, it's just some of the better seafood you can find in the area. Same for Henry's LA Grill in Acworth.

Well, technically speaking New Orleans is not part of Cajun country. The food there is traditionally Creole. However, you can get plenty of great Cajun food throughout New Orleans.

Was at a restaurant in Virginia years ago that was serving a "Cajun inspired" menu at the time.
One of the dishes was named "Chicken Tchoupitoulas" which I was impressed they spelled correctly, but they had taken the trouble of spelling it out phonetically next to the name (Chop-Uh-Too-Loo).
Whenever we ordered I pointed it out to the waitress. "Just FYI, this is pronounced Chop-Uh-Too-Luss."
"No, sir, it isn't."
"Yeah. It actually is."
She goes and gets the manager who comes out and has the exact same argument with me. It finally ended with me pulling out my driver's license (was living in NOLA at the time), pointing to it and asking the manager to read where I'm from.
Just a public service announcement for all Louisiana residents, according to a restaurant in Virginia, we've been pronouncing Tchoupitoulas wrong this entire time.

that seafood place off the interstate in Lake Charles that's always packed. Been there twice. I don't get the appeal. Maybe just opportunistic location?
Steamboat Bills? Yeah, that place is always packed.

I keep telling indians the same thing.

Not a restaurant but I was not allowed entrance to a Louisiana themed bar in Philly called "The Swamp". They said my Louisiana ID was fake (it wasn't) and they even busted out some ID identification handbook to compare it and still deemed it a fake.
