I don't disagree with any of your four points, but it's still bullshite a brewer is forced to go through your company. Should be his or her choice.

Southern Eagle Purchasing Glazer's Beer Portfolio

Spoke with the guy at BR's favorite beer spot. I asked about the impact of Southern Eagle (Mockler) taking over. He said he wasn't sure but it didn't look good.

Hopefully this doesn't reduce the quality craft brews we get in exchange for that batch 19 and henry weinhard bullshite.

I'm not worried about CJ changing. It's CJ getting what he wants to get. Would Southern Eagle be able to distribute the same brands that they did before?

Or will BMC who run Mockler, dictate what they distribute?

Pretty sure InBev/AB no longer dictates who Mockler can and can't distribute.

I'm not exactly sure how they are allocated. But it isn't based on how they move InBev product.

From my discussion with him the other day, it's not as simple as Mockler just taking all of Glazers inventory and beginning to sell it.

Mockler doesn't have unlimited space to take on inventory and distribute it. So they are going to end up picking and choosing which ones they take on. And that's not a good thing, because as we've seen with Timber Beast, Mockler may just decide not carry what we want them to carry. We may lose some stuff that they deem not worthy of carrying. Specifically, he said that if you like Ommegang, North Coast, Unibroue, Rochefort, Chimay, you better stock up now, because it could be a while before they replenish they supply to our market. I saw the whole list, and it was 4 or 5 pages long.

He was convinced that this was not a good thing for craft beer drinkers in Baton Rouge.

I'm sure they'll be REAL concerned about getting all of the different special releases of all of our favorite brands. They'll be the first ones to jump on something that we're craving or is brand new. I mean Timber Beast is JUST rolling out of Lazy Mag and we're already almost about to have it soon....ish.

4. New Belgium had all the major distributors in a fight to see who could distribute their beer here. It wasn't not available in Louisiana because they couldn't sell it to people. It was not in Louisiana because New Belgium didn't want to be in Louisiana yet.

Same goes with any small brewery, they are in control of where they want to be.

Eta: what house are you in?(I don't expect you to tell me )

You mean like how nobody would distribute nola at first because they didnt produce enough and they were forced to find more investors and buy more equipment?

Yeah, really sounds like small breweries are in control of where they can go.

I think he meant the mid-sized ones. New Belgium, Great Divide, Oscar Blues, Dogfish Head. They could all send their beer to Louisiana. We're a small enough market that we won't kill their production. They just don't want to be here yet.

Awesome. But, hey, your bare and store owners get to keep their "relationship" with their friendly beer distributor and don't have to worry about that stuff themselves.

In all reality, what you will see with Mockler picking up these brands, is an expansion of craft beer. The plan is to put it into more accounts. Craft is an growing market. The plan is not to eliminate, the plan is to expand. The warehouse will get bigger in order to hold more products.
