Don’t know about Columbia. But If you ride toward Charleston detour to Holly Hill SC and eat at Sweatman’s. It real deal whole hog, mustard sauce SC bbq.

Shealy's in Leesville is the best I've had, but it's about 30 miles west of Columbia. Probably not worth the drive, unless you're headed that way on 20.

He’s opening a place in Birmingham. I’m looking forward to trying it out.

Pot Belly in the Vista. Best there is in Columbia, and I've been to all the ones already mentioned here.

Little Pigs is a close second though.

Is a buffet that has both South Carolina mustard style and North Carolina vinegar basted along with tons of sides, fried chicken etc

Scott’s is in Hemingway SC, which is 2 hours from Columbia. He does have a new place in Charleston and that is closer. It is not mustard based bbq but it is very good.

Sweatman’s is only open on the weekends; maybe Thur - Sat, or something like that. I’m not a big fan but know some who are.

Maurice’s is a chain but I like it, it is a good example of mustard based bbq IMO.

Not in Columbia but in Charleston in 17 is a place called Swig and Swine. Some of the best homemade sausage I’ve ever had. The beer is great too.

They have a great Alabama white BBQ sauce as well.

I am not familiar with this place other than having heard about it. I recently heard a tribute on NPR about the long time cook having died recently. I think they said he was 56.

I am not saying that means anything with regard to the food quality. He may not have been cooking in recent years.

Andrew Zimmern recently had an episode (Season 2, Episode 4) of his "List" show on Charleston that included Rodney Scott and his new place, plus some soul food and other good looking stuff.
