I have mixed feelings. One one hand, the food should be amazing. I can get behind mustard greens and fried chicken.

On the other hand, I have a feeling the crowd will be “interesting” and the sponsors look terrible. This seems like something Mayor Broome is pushing.

But it’s free. So what do you have to lose? Anyone else in?

Out of curiosity, does Baton Rouge still have that place called The Table is Bread?

What do you mean by the crowds will be interesting?

You should go if you like the food and music, don’t be such a pussy.

Sensitive much? That’s fine if that’s what you got out of my post. Read it again like a rational person and you’ll see that I am clearly already planning to go and generating a discussion on a message board.

We’ll tell the coroner you weren’t a pussy. He’ll save some time with the autopsy.

Me?

I really want to know what you meant by that.

Your first paragraph says you are going and then after that it looks like you are trying to talk yourself out of it.

I’m sure there will be some black people there but I wouldn’t let them bother you

I’d have to guess it would have the same crowd any festival in that same area has. Maybe a bit less people since it’s year 1 and not a ton of advertising has been done, but a mixed crowd nonetheless.

Well to be honest you seem to be the sensitive one.

If it isn’t 500 degrees I might pop in for some collards.

Well the musical lineup looks....soulful.

To date, the local musical lineup includes the blues, soul, funk and reggae band Henry Turner Jr. & Flavor, the ‘King and Queen of the Gut Bucket Blues’ SmokeHouse Porter and Miss Mamie, the smooth southern soul sounds of Uncle Chess and the Groove Band, Demetrio Batiste and Friends, with blues rapper Lee Tyme, gospel/jazz singer Wyanda Paul, R&B singer Xavie Shorts, Demetrio Batiste and Friends, Michael Carey and singer/songwriter Larry “LZ” Dillon. Touring acts are St. Louis songstress Lelani, Virginia based LaToya Rene and Portia Portia from Houston. Gospel performers and choirs include Soulfully Yours, Divine Purpose and True Vine Ministries’ International Choir and Praise Team. Special Guest is Miss Black Louisiana USA, Makeva Armant. More talent will be announced closer to the date.

WTF is gut bucket blues?

Also, where is this? Soul food is delicious.

EDIT: Found it. It's apparently on the river just South of the River Center.

There's also a picture on the webpage that contains these items:

Fried catfish
Yams
Smothered Carrots
Chicken fried steak in brown gravy
Cornbread
Collard greens
Fried chicken
Smothered cabbage
Mustard greens
Fried okra
Blackeye peas

All of those things are delicious.

EDIT 2: WAIT. I may reassess my desire to attend. The bottom of the web page lists their address as 4708 Bawell Street. This is where the headquarters are. It does not instill confidence that the whole thing isn't going to be a shitshow debacle. That's my new band name, BTW.

If I weren’t going out of town, I would go. This thread reminds of people saying that new developments on Government will never work because they are afraid to be in the area after dark
