Went last night, first time in years. Not bad! The sweet BBQ sauce is great. $40 family feast is enough for a family of 4 to eat twice. Pulled pork and ribs were the best of the meats. Garlic toast was > the plain white bread you get at some BBQ joints. Only complaint was the brisket and white meat chicken were dry. Sides were serviceable; green beans were the best of the group.

The inside was nicely restored after the flood. Service was solid and there was a good crowd.

I love Sonny’s. Always stop at the one on the way to Destin off the Pensacola NAS exit.

Never quite understood why they never expanded more locations in Baton Rouge? That Florida Blvd. location had been there since the early 80’s, if not before.

Their food has always been consistently good, nothing great, except for their beans. Their BBQ beans are amazing with the left over smoked pork and beef pieces in them.

Their beans have always been mediocre crunchy navy beans to me. Podnuhs is goat beans anyways.

I don’t like their barbecue that much but apparently a lot of people do because they always have a good crowd. And yes, it does look nice inside now after their restoration.

Their original and spicy BBQ sauce is legit.

They expanded in 2000 with 2 locations around Lafayette and 1 in West Monroe. All closed within a few years. That Florida BBQ apparently doesn't play well around the state. The BR location has been a money maker for years though.

So, they’ve only expanded once in Louisiana in almost 20 years? Wow

They were dumb to think it could make it in the same area as Danken Trail or Podnuh’s.

I ate there 3-4 yrs ago and it was the worst BBQ I've ever had. I don't get the hype for this place.

The franchise company only owns a handful of restaurants in Florida last I checked. Most of the units are individual franchises to Mom and Pop's. The BR unit was like that for most of the time. Now a family out of Lafayette owns it since the late 90's.

If you were raised on meats cooked on a R2D2 water smoker then you would get the hype. 8/10 people wouldn't know good BBQ if you slapped them in the face with it. It's sad to see.
