Miss that place so much. Recently had it in Alabama and it was the best pizza I’ve eaten in years. Whole family loved it. Those pretzels with cinnamon and sugar that you dip in honey. Yum!

Looks like they’ve also closed the one on 98 in Destin and their Hattiesburg, MS location.

The one in Covington closed, too. Is it fair to say MM is on the decline?

I agree. It’s good pizza. We like to stop on vacation when we find one. We were lucky enough to find 3 in different states the last 6 months. There’s one in the Spanish Fort area of AL on the way to Florida or OBA.

They seriously need to up the quality of their pizza for the prices they charge.

I think the quality is fine. Looks like the price may be bit high, but I think it’s closer to normal than it is far.

Large Pepperoni:
Mellow Mushroom - $20
Rotolos - $19
Red Zeppelin - $16

It’s 25% more than the best pizza you listed. That’s a good bit imo

Mellow has always been pricey! I used to enjoy dining in at the Metairie location. When i lived in Baton Rouge i went to the Rotolo’s on Nicholson more than Mellow Mushroom!

There are some bad Mellow Mushrooms. But the one in Asheville is a good one.

Mellow Mushroom corporate told the owner he had to fork over 300k for renovations in 2021. franchisee told him to kick rocks. It's now lone wolf pizza at the same location.

Wonder if that's the case for the other closings.

Huge restaurants that rely heavily on alcohol sales and they have no delivery - I’m sure covid put the final nail in many MM’s coffin

The one in Metairie was nicely done build out wise but always poorly managed. The waitstaff was usually pretty apathetic which is a shame because I know that build out wasn’t cheap. I have fond memories of watching MNF at the Covington location when I lived there. Each booth has a personal TV. A good novelty for this sort of place.

The spiked sausage hoagie was great but they took it off the menu. They also had a really good house salad dressing. When they started adding burgers to the menu it was desperation Hail Mary time.

Why wouldn't you look for a local pizza shop instead of fricking mellow mushroom?

Because there’s no Mellow Mushroom local to me and I enjoy it.

The wife and kids love it. That’s rare. You take advantage of that whenever possible.

Mellow Mushroom was started in Atlanta. The first one was in what looked like an old DQ from the 50s with only outside concrete tables for seating. The pizza was cheap and good.
When control passed from the founder, new management insisted on upgrading the franchise sites and those who would not upgrade the facilities had to change the name -- but they could still buy the same ingredients from MM. So, if a local MM suddenly changes its name, the product may not change, or change much.
Obviously, different franchise locations have different standards, but the one in Auburn is still rocking along. The two that were near us in Atlanta have changed into something else.
In these inflationary times, people may be opting for cheaper pizza alternatives.
