this has been a godsend to the businesses along govt street and is one of the drivers of the massive redevelopment in that corridor

I understood it as OP asking which places would kill it if they were in better/busier parts of town but currently do not because of location. Overpass and Government restaurants are constantly packed, IME.

Staring Ln. Popeyes. If it were adjacent to campus it would print money.

Kind of an odd parameter to put on that considering how far they are from each other, why not just say they should build a Popeyes by campus?

Motherfricking this! Wait until the bike lanes are painted on. People will be driving even slower. If you aren’t going to a place on or off of Government, carry your arse over to Florida or North, it’s not that hard.

It also prints money anyway. All Popeyes have lines out to the street every day.

Joe Delpit, owner of Chicken Shack,

This has nothing to do with the subject of this thread but here goes anyway. I only ate there once. In the early 2000's Joe bought my 99 Suburban for a young lady. I dropped the vehicle off to him at a bank near the restaurant and my mom picked me up. He invited us to the restaurant for lunch on him.

Sherwood Forest should do the same.

I would agree if the streets were not exits from the interstate

Is it that these restaurants are in bad places or is it just that they have terrible parking lots???

Although I agree with Nino’s being hard to see and Eliza hard to find. But I think some of the smaller, local places are where they are because of rent prices.

Government Street, can I say I'm amazed at the stupidity of the road diet. What city has ever taken a 4 lane road and intentionally cut it down to a 2 lane road??

Do you even Magazine Street, Bro?!

Have you been there lately? They seem to have given up on trying. I’ve been twice in about 6 weeks. They forced me to use the app, wouldn’t answer a question, wouldn’t take a card (even through the app) and I waited for about 10 minutes in the foyer before ANYONE came in to talk to me. A girl with EarPods in her ear appeared very bothered that I was there and I heard her turn down another order on the phone at 8:45,

They don’t seem to really want to survive. Food was good though

Mason's Grill would kill it somewhere else

Can’t disagree more. Mason’s does a hell of a business where it is, mainly from the people who work or live in the area. Moving it elsewhere would probably take 80% of their clientele away. Mason’s works because of where it is. What’s the alternative restaurant in the area? There is nothing like it anywhere close. Location is why they are popular.

Not sure what places you are talking about. They built a median down the middle of the road with very few cut-throughs. Not easy to get to many of the businesses. I’ve talked to many owners along there and their business is down. Drive along there and you will see many closed down businesses.

I drive along there everyday to the the two buildings we are renovating for new businesses and to the full block property we are about to redevelop

government street is the most active corridor for redevelopment in the city right now. Property values and rents have gone vertical since the road diet was announced, and the push to do it was led by a long time mid city resident & owner. The “closed businesses” you see are the remaining crap that will shortly be something new and cool

Yep, that road diet was the death knell for Captain D's.

Can't say I agree with these two.

Willies has a line of people waiting to get in for brunch every weekend and is packed for dinner a lot of week nights. They also have a decent lunch crowd.

Atomic Burger usually has a huge line and is located perfectly for the college crowds. Not sure where else in baton rouge it would have more success than it already does
