They will sell it as "Silver Fin" saying Asian carp doesn't taste as bad as American carp.

if done correctly. sure.

Tilapia, Sea Bass, even Catfish owe their success in large part to marketing.

Blackened Silver Fin will be the next "In Thing" recipe..
Might as well add Blackened Nutria ...
Maybe these 2 recipes will have the same effect that it had on Redfish..

It's nasty. I've had it and I won't have it again.

I don't eat sea bass either because it is the same as striped bass and I don't care for it.

Tilapia only in a pinch and forced upon.

I will eat Mississippi catfish though. I think they have really gotten better over the years. Not near as good as wild Amite River catfish but nevertheless pretty good.

Pretty much anything Phillipe touches turns to shite over a not so long period of time.

Actually there was a story in the paper last week about a fashion show trying to rehabitate the image of nutria fur. I think people will be eating carp long before they're wearing nutrias.

Saw a thing about this huge place in Omaha on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, whose house specialty was fried carp (big goldfish). They supposedly served tons of it daily.

Looked pretty damn disgusting.

And I'm sure over the years lots of poor Asian people ate the carp. But the question is whether consumers today will buy those things, not whether their ancestors a hundred years ago did.

Why not just fry it up, throw it on the Golden Corral buffet line, and call it fried catfish? I'm pretty certain that no one would file a complaint.

i saw that too....the thing was huge, and reminded me of a bloomin' onion. And yes, it looked gross. But, i also thought, "that would really sell in Louisiana at any half arse fry shack".

I don't know. I saw the people tearing into that fish at that place and it just looked like mush, after they fried it.

so does a lot of the crap that people eat at awful fry shacks across the state....greasy, salty, overseasoned shite. Season it, give it a sauce to dip, and pile on some mushy fries.

Not everywhere is churning out nice, crisp, lightly battered fresh seafood.

have you ever had that type of carp? i havn't but willing to try.

i also eat some "trash" fish that some dont. white bass or "barfish" for example. alot of it has to do with how you clean it and prepare it.

i saw an add about them in the state fishing regs i just got. i am willing to try. more for freezer

But just look at what he did for the nutria market....It's what makes Johnny's Pizza Famous.

nope, and same here.

I mean a lot shite we eat was once considered trash. ALso, we (cajuns/south La) are known for eating anything, so we shouldn't judge too harshly.

True, when I was a kid redfish were considered trash. I think most of the problem with carp is it's too boney. But if a processor is gonna filet it and it tastes OK fried and it's cheap, it might sell.

i agree, especially in certain markets.

i am willing to try new things. its all about how you prepare them. you gotta cut that "gamey" part out and go from there.
