So I asked my wife to stop to pick up some Salmon for dinner....

When she gets home, I see she bought some on sale for $5.99 at Randall's in Houston. It was labeled, "Atlantic Salmon" and at the bottom of the tag it read, "Farm Raised Product of Chile." WTF!?! Am I missing something here?
In the end, the product was decent enough, I just find it extremely misleading. Am I alone here?
Yes, before you go there, I encourage her to buy wild, West Coast Salmon but the woman cannot resist a sale. You'd think we were the Joads from The Grapes of Wrath by the way she shops.

By Atlantic they just mean not Pacific.
That's the good stuff.

Mislabeled by store as opposed to packers?
Fishing is from the Atlantic side of Chile? Very small area.

Wait, Chile does have an Atlantic side? Time to go check a map. Maybe I'm just an idiot but in my head I can't see it...

Not really a side, but a loop around part so their fisherman could conceivably fish on the Atlantic side. I don't know, I just looked at a map also because I wondered if it did what I remembered.

If it's farmed, then it can be a non native species raised in a Chilean "fish farm"

Yes, I figured that was how they could legally label it that way. I'll likely do a little research to see why they wouldn't just label it Pacific Salmon which is widely regarded as a superior product. There must be a reason they don't use Pacific Salmon genetics in farms so they could use an equivalent label to what I saw. Farm raised or not, the heading would be, "Pacific Salmon," which I think most would identify as higher quality and could fetch a higher price. Maybe that's just me...

Atlantic and Pacific Salmon are two different species.
And while farm raised are a bit mushy and don't have quite the flavor they serve a purpose because of availability and affordability. Since my wife and kids don't eat salmon I use them as my "middle of the week" salmon, like I use a good sirloin on a Tuesday night.

That's why we're all so confused.

Are there no farm raised Atlantic Salmon factories in Murica? Looks like a gap in the industry.

As one generally gets when common names are used in place of scientific names. Atlantic and Pacific are not in the same genus. Salmo vs. Oncorhynchus

Randall's in Houston
I'd tell your wife to stop shopping at Randall's.
That is the most expensive grocery store chain in the city-Central Market and Whole Foods included.

You're absolutely right. It's a terrible store, rarely enough registers open, often out of stock on staple items, expensive, it blows. HOWEVER, we have a Randall's less than 5 minutes away from the house and convenient to her commute home from work. As big a sucker as she is for a sale, she contradicts herself by saving 20 minutes and going to Randall's.
For major trips, I go to HEB Bunker Hill or the Kroger on Ella in Garden Oaks. We live in the Oak Forest area and I'm usually the shopper/ cook in the family.

I think we really need a picture of your wife to make an informed decision on this issue

Farm Raised- run! Only farmed raised fish I eat is catfish. Everything else is wild caught.

This is why I do the protein shopping in my family. I let my wife pick out the Costco rotisserie chicken, and that's about it. She can't even pick out canned tuna correctly.

I'd have no problem with that but I'm sure that would immediately void my anonymity and there are way too many creeps on this site for me to knowingly do that.

B&W is a fantastic meat market. In fact, I picked up a couple legs of lamb there a few weeks ago.
