Meh, there's no denying Wild Pacific is a superior product, I acknowledged as much in my initial post. This is a midweek, quick meal which doesn't always have to be the best. Salmon is part of our weekly rotation and weekly $20/lb Salmon is just wasteful even if I'd prefer the better product. Do you buy a prime steak every time you buy steak?

There are no wild caught Atlantic Salmon.
If you see Atlantic Salmon it is farm raised.
If you see Atlantic Salmon it is farm raised.

I do. But that's because I don't eat steak once a week.
The farm raised stuff is pretty good. You don't have to feel all grapes of wrathy because y'all bought it.

It's a great place to live! Very comfortable, perhaps even modest while convenient for both my wife and I. I work near Greenspoint and she near the Galleria so it works out almost even for the both of us, 20 minutes commute each on average. We get access to Cottonwood, Shepherd Park, Petrol Station, etc. while keeping most of the inner loop a quick drive away. Major downfall though is a convenient grocery that isn't Randall's...

It was more hyperbole regarding her shopping habits while trying to keep the thread on subject because I guessed most would just say we bought the wrong product rather than discuss the topic.

While I'm sure you're right, there are Atlantic Salmon and many are wild caught. Are you saying that we just wouldn't see them in a market here?
Looks like the consensus is that this was genetically an Atlantic Salmon that was farm raised on/ near the Pacific. I find that a bit weird and would like to know why anyone would farm and label a product as such when a genetically Pacific Salmon, raised on/ near the Pacific would likely fetch a better price on name alone...

Im saying there are no commercial Atlantic Salmon fisheries anymore
If you see Atlantic Salmon in the store, it is farm raised, no matter what the package says

they farm raise atlantic salmon in pacific waters and atlantic waters. atlantic salmon is a specific type of salmon. pacific salmon is not. pacific salmon can be sockeye, king, chinook, or a couple others. atlantic salmon is illegal to commercial fish so if your buying it, it's farm raised. atlantic salmon gets a bad rap becuase they use dye in the food to give the meat a pinkish color b/c they arent feeding them shrimp and other crustacians that wild salmon eat which give their meat their color. but at salmon have a milder flavor which many perfer.

Yeah, I started looking around and it seems you and Salmon are right, we will never see a wild Atlantic Salmon in a market. There is also a very large market for "Atlantic Salmon" raised in the Pacific Ocean. On it's face, this isn't as potentially interesting as I thought it could have been, oh well.
Still seems like there could be a myriad of spinoffs from the initial question. How do we feel about seafood labeling both in restaurants and in groceries?

many restaurants claim their atl salmon is wild, fresh, and flown in that day. too bad they aren't smart enough to call it pacific salmon since their willing to lie about the other details.

Do you have a Restaurant Depot in Houston? The salmon there, even the farm raised, is amazing because it is so fresh. And the price usually cannot be beat.
