I get what you are saying, but are you really eating pulled pork and rice for a week straight? Also, you aren't just going to buy those two ingredients unless you want a bland meal. Add in cost for seasoning and whatever is going with rice and your bill is closer to $30+. I do agree that it is still a better option though
i eat the same thing for lunch every day because i can cook it in large batch and have a healthy packable cheap option everyday that i enjoy. its not that unreasonable. I dont know what spices your buying that add up to $15 per purchase, but you may need help shopping if that's the case.

At Jack in the Box, you can still get a couple of those shiny tacos and a jumbo Jack for about $5.
There are deals to be had on the value menus.
Pizza chains are still perplexing to me. Delivery pizza is about the same price as 1986.

And extra $15 for celery, an onion, garlic, and spices? I absolutely guarantee you salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, and a couple spices do not cost $15 per use. But even if I agree, $30 to feed a family of 4 for a week beats $30 to maybe feed a family of 4 for a single meal. And the home cooked meal is better in every way. Lower sodium, better nutrition, better flavor, etc…

Yes. I do this every week. On Sunday I cook a large meal we eat Mon-Wed and on Thursday I repurpose what’s left into another meal for Thurs/Fri/sat.
For example Sunday I’ll grill chicken and sausage and cook a veggie. Mon-Wed we’ll eat chicken and sausage by itself or on a sandwich or in a tortilla. Thurs day I’ll take what’s left and make jambalaya. We eat that Thursday until it’s done.
Or maybe I’ll smoke a pork shoulder and eat it for a few days and then repurpose it into jambalaya or a pot of white beans
Or maybe I’ll cook a Chuck roast and veggies on Sunday and Thursday turn it into a Sheppard’s pie or casserole.
All of those thing above cost less than $30 and you can eat them for a weeks worth of meals.
Sundays are for church and family. It’s fun to teach my kids how to cook and how to save and spend time together around the dinner table.
We’ve grown so utterly accustomed to excess and gluttony in this country the reality of cutting back is seen as some unattainable weirdness instead of the normalcy it should be.
Our grandparents ate the same pot of beans for a week or more and we can’t fathom eating the same meal a couple nights a week. Grumble grumble get off my lawn.

Look at grocery store prices and then compare it to a fast food menu.
Maybe it’s not considerably cheaper but it’s still cheaper than buying groceries at such high prices.
I guess it depends on what/ where you're buying and how you plan to eat. All good.
Either way food costs are definitely way up

Yes but saying it’s cheaper to eat out/fast food than buying groceries is ridiculous. They don’t know how to shop then.

I had breakfast at McDonald's recently and got the sausage egg and cheese mcmuffin meal, but instead of coffee I substituted a SMALL coke zero and the upcharge was $2.

A 3 pound pork butt is 2 pounds max after cooking. That's 4 maybe five individual meals. So 1 meal for a family of four and someone can eat lunch with the leftovers the next day.
I have to think that guy was being sarcastic.

Teenagers can earn money if they want extra food.

I have a couple 9-1/2 pound pork butts I picked up this past weekend. At .99/ lb that's a good value .

Chicken Chalupas are almost $6 each.
Yet I can go to a taco truck and get a torta or burrito for less.

I remember when Taco Bell had the .69, .79 and .99 deal for tacos, taco bellgrande and I forget what the .99 cent one was for.
Yes, such a thing actually existed.
