Its now called La Wild Deer Depot and I still think their tamales are the best.

Days smokehouse in Watson makes good ones but they require 15 lbs of meat. They are pretty pricey

Mi Tierra Restaurante Mexicano in Alexandria. My wife knows the old mexican lady that handmakes the tamales. Her deer tamales are the best I've ever had. But thats a bit far for you!

Gwens tamales in picayune are excellent. They are wet tamales. Also, the mild is very mild so if you like a little kick get them hot.

Schexnayder's Acadian Foods in Kenner. The deer hunters I know bring their deer there for butchering and to get deer sausage made. I have never had their tamales, but I have had their other stuff and it is very good. Someone brought over a pot of their spicy ouster soup for Christmas and it was delicious.

Bump for any additional suggestions, particularly in greater Baton Rouge area, Hammond, or Brookhaven.

Joe Romero out ofCentral does fantastic tamales and burritos. Extensive sausage choices too. Steen’s syrup was very good
