It's not seafood but one of my favorite stops is Hebert's boudin and cracklin. 2007 E Main St B, Broussard, LA 70518. It really makes for awesome snack food for the drive. If taking Ambassador Caffery there's the new Fezzo's along the way. Not sure if it's on your way but Bon Temps would be a nice place to bring someone from out of state.

What's the current status of Blacks in Abbeville? It's one of those perennially on-again/off-again restaurants, and I'm not sure where it stands now.

I've been there when it's decent and it's a cool looking place, but it's been awhile.

I wouldn't consider Blacks or Abbeville on the way to Avery Island from Lafayette.

The last I heard, Blacks reopened up a while back. Various restaurants in Abbeville had competing oyster specials. Wednesdays come to mind.

There's a restaurant on Avery Island that recently opened. I haven't heard much about it, but I'd be curious to try it out. They serve gumbo and Cajun dishes. The McIlhenny's opened it and it's called 1868.

It's a farther drive than you think considering that Black's no longer exists.

Yeah, I got the impression in the OP that the guy was going to be hanging out in the area for a while. Not that he was just looking to drive super efficient straight lines as the crow flies between points A and B at all times. Abbeville's not really that much "out of the way" between Lafayette and Avery Island.

Stop at Billy's in Scott for boudin balls, crawfish pies, boudin, etc. A little bit north of I12, just off of 49 check out Prejean's restaurant. Had the best duck and andouille gumbo ever there. Has Cajun décor inside.
