I honestly don’t know, but TJ was a tough businessman. I’m sure that he and Ruth Fertel negotiated something that would allow the business to be a Ruth’s Chris in perpetuity.
I suspect that as well. This isn't the first time it's been sold, right?

I think Chris bought in in 2018 and it was 2nd time sold since TJ died, but don’t quote me on that.

Do you know if the Darden company is set up the same way? I don't.
Article says 80 are company owned and 74 are franchises
Regardless, franchisees are still at the mercy of the franchisor and are bound by franchise agreements.
These big acquisitions generally end up straying further away from the service and quality that one once knew. The obvious play here for a company like Darden is mass expansion being as RC only has 154 units. There will be one in on every corner and lux strip mall in America soon

I bet it will still be an upscale place to put on your nice jeans and enjoy a meal
Last time I went there were more sweatpants and joggers than jeans

Gotta go early. The ghetto trash starts to roll in at 8:45pm

Never thought much of the place based on my experiences there

They already have Longhorn for that.
This is interesting. I'm pretty sure all of Darden's other brands are 100 percent corporate owned.
I could see some sort of brand merger with the Capital Grille brand. According to Wiki, there is about 60 of those. Hopefully the Ruth's brand stays.
I wonder if they will try to buy out the franchises.

Ripped up jeans, gold teeth, and strippers last time I went to the Lafayette location. I'll spend my money elsewhere

Anyone know the location of the first Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in BR?

Last time I went to the one in lafayette the steak was horrible. Worse than somewhere like saltgrass.

Never had anything less than an excellent meal at the one in BR.
The other locations I’ve been to have been way more inconsistent.

From their last 10-K filing:
quote:
we owned and operated 1,867 restaurants through subsidiaries in the United States and Canada under the Olive Garden®, LongHorn Steakhouse®, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen®, Yard House®, The Capital Grille®, Seasons 52®, Bahama Breeze®, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood®, and The Capital Burger® trademarks. As of May 29, 2022, we also had 60 restaurants operated by independent third parties pursuant to area development and franchise agreements.
So mostly corporate owned.

To be honest, they've kind of priced me out with steaks running $55 to $123 for the Porterhouse for 2.
Damn Ribeye is pushing $70 and the T-Bone is $72. Then everything else you want to eat is ala carte costing for each individual order.
Hell, a couple drinks, 2 steaks with 2-3 sides, no dessert and you're pushing $250 with the tip.

And yet it is still hard to get a table there ….

People keep saying this...why?
Why would this be any different than what the previous group was doing/had done?

Prime meat is expensive. Everything is expensive

Yep. That and the amount of food he's talking about ordering for a couple is way overkill
