Filet with sweet potato casserole or potatoes au gratin. Cheesecake for dessert. You can get half orders of some of the sides if you want to try a couple different ones. Full sides are normally enough for 2 people.

Appreciate the responses so far.

Think I'll definitely try to make room for the cheesecake.

cream spinach

This is a must for the wife and I when we eat there. Our order is ribeye for me cooked medium rare and the wife likes the filet cooked medium rare also.

The sides are almost always cream spinach and potatoes au gratin.

I'll usually have a couple cocktails and the wife a glass or two of wine and we skip dessert.

I'm 71 and the wife is 65, so our appetites are not as big as they once were and that is enough food to more than fill us up.

I make ribeyes at home but Ruth’s specialty is the filet mignon. Their ribeye is fine but indistinguishable from any decent ribeye. I always get their filet.

Friend,

Consider getting the lump crab salad served in a tall glass for an appetizer. They name the dish after an alcoholic poison, but I do not use that name.

Sides I enjoy are the asparagus with hollandaise, which is almost always great. Deciding between the mashed potatoes and shoestring French fried potatoes is always difficult to me. Let the moment help make that decision. I do not recommend their $15 baked potato, which is usually dry and the most ridiculously priced item in America. Some love the creamed spinach, but is not part of my normal meal there.

For entree, it is rare that I do not get their specialty, the 11 ounce filet, rare, which always pleases. We visited the one in Destin a few weeks ago, and even though the plate was not sizzling, the steak was wonderful. If Mother allows it, I usually get two of the 11 oz filets. We think the Metairie Ruth’s is better, but they no longer serve the lump crab appetizer.

Most times I forego dessert. However, if a child is in your party, consider getting the child two children meals. When Cousin’s child is with us she always wants the chicken tenders with fries. It also comes with an ice cream dessert. But if you’re cozy with the waiter, you can order two kids meals, and I have Cousin order the 4oz prime filet, which comes with mashed potatoes and ice cream. At $19, it is a bargain. The ice cream is decent, but the steak is great.

Bread service is best when they use New Orleans French bread. But depending on where we’ve been the bread can be hit or miss. The last time we were at the one in Chicago they served us a sourdough bread, which seemed off. The whipped butter was perfect, but nothing compares to our French bread.

Please take pictures and let us know how your visit unfolds.

Yours,
TulaneLSU

My standard order is lettuce wedge w/bleu cheese crumbles, NY strip, medium rare, more rare than medium, creamed spinach. Then chocolate sin cake for dessert…
