Word on the street is that Johnny DeAngelo is going to make another run at things and is opening a new location of NY Pizza and Pasta on Jones Creek. Anybody know anything about it?

Is this the place going up in the old Arby’s building? Seems like it’s been in construction for forever.

No but I can predict that they will charge a premium price for a mediocre product if they are under the same management

My chums(many live in Jones Creek area) & I were very loyal customers, and used to buy all his $100 gets $200 cards,etc..
I liked him, but he is sorta BSC, treated staff questionably at times, and quite frankly excelled at a time when guys like he, and Omar at Roma,etc..were the only Mama Marino/Gino's pizza, and FDL alternatives..
I don't remember his pizzas being as good as Red Zeppelin nor Rocca. But, will still give him some biz when he opens..
BR is still a very lean Pizza town.

I miss Omar. I wonder where he is now.

I think someone here posted years ago, that Omar sold and moved back to NY?
Never made it to Oscar's Pizza and Ice Cream. Nor Souga. Were they good?

When he first opened it blew these two out of the water.
Ny pizza and mama dellas were the best 2 ny style pizza places in baton rouge by far. They both made pizza that actually tasted like it belonged in the northeast and reminded me of home.
Sucks neither dude knew how to run a successful business.

I remember the first time I walked into Johnny D's NY Pizza place on Jones Creek. It was about 2pm on a Monday and I quickly surmised that they were in the process of closing right after lunch, so I said, "Oh, you guys are closed. I'll come back later." But Johnny D insisted on serving me. He kept saying, "What do you want? We'll make it for you. What do you want?" And he ended up talking me into it. I hated that his staff had to do that after they were already cleaning up, but the guy wouldn't take "no" for an answer. He insisted.
I also used to go into his later place on Coursey where he tried making a go of it. I thought it was pretty decent, myself, but it didn't seem to last long. I'm glad to read that he may be making a comeback. The guy is a likeable character. I will definitely go check his new place out.

A friend of mine told me that he and another friend were eating at his later place on Coursey Blvd (can't remember the name exactly, but I think it was Johnny D's) one time and Johnny D. came out of the back wearing a "wife-beater" undershirt and a gold chain and as he sat down at a table to eat, he said, "Alright everyone, let's enjoy a good meal" or something like that.

That’s the name of it but I don’t think Johnny DeAngelo is doing it but I could be wrong. It’s the guys that have La Contea on Jefferson is what I have been told.

Omar retired and moved to New York to be close to his daughter and grandchildren. Miss that guy.

So what are the best pizza places in BR now? Moving there and haven’t really been around in 10 years.

Mama Della dude made Johnny look like Marcus Lemonis in terms of businessman.
I gave him biz too, and brought my mother often, but he as the tv show attested, had a self sabotage streak.

Red Zeppelin
Roma in pville
People love Rocca but I was unimpressed the one time I've been. Pizza was a soggy mess. Need to try it again but with a pizza with less toppings
Honestly BR is lacking in pizza. If the owner of Momma Della's wasn't a stubborn old grouch he could've done very well for himself.

I like Roma, but they never put enough sauce, even when I request extra. Their pizzas are ultra-greasy as well.

Right by my house. I hope it happens.

Looks like I posted in that one too
Best pizza I've ever had in Baton Rouge. If it really is him I hope he lasts a little longer this time around.

City Slice is my favorite at the moment. The crust is perfectly chewy and the toppings are great. Drink prices suck but if we're just talking pizza then it's great. Smoked buffalo wings are damn good too.
