I just got back about 3 weeks ago from Costa Rica. I discovered a rum from Nicaragua Flora de Cana 7 year old. I thought is was a very good rum. I am not a usually a rum drinker, but I really enjoyed it. What I am asking the rum drinkers of the F&DB what are your go to rums for me to try?

Lots of good ones, I like Zaya but it is blended and flavored so some favor it a liqueur. Amazing on the rocks as a sipper..

IMHO, the best rums on the planet are from Cuba and thus not readily available in the States. Havana Club Anejo is a great one as is Legendario 7. The Legendario is made with macerated raisins and has a deep molasses sweetness. So tasty.

It's actually quite good if you can find it.

One of the best I've had is Bones Rum from St. Thomas. Don't know if you can buy it outside of the island.

I will go to Havana to try that rum. I will defy my government. lol. I did not see it in San Jose but I did not look that hard. When I drink Havana Club I would like to be in Cuba. I was going to take a cultural trip there but the cost was a little too much for me. You could never leave the group or you would have been sent home. WTF. I was told that Cuba will not stamp your passport if you go. So, I will go one day. If they do stamp it then Obama can put me in jail.

Flor de Cana is everywhere. It is decent. An excellent rum for drinking on the rocks s Vizcaya VXOP Cask No.21. Go to Dorignac's if you live in Metairie. They try tp keep it in stock because of me.

This is a Cuban formula rum. It is legit.

For a daiquiri? I guess if that is how you want to drink it. I find Meyer's to be better for a daiquiri.

I'm not a big rum drinker, but I love some Ron Zacapa.

I picked up Foursquare 10 yr Bourbon Aged Rum while passing through Barbados a few years back...It's delicious, but I can't find it anywhere. The little bit I have left is one of my prized possessions.

Captain is more of a mixing rum, not as "spiced" as others

I have been enjoying the moderate priced Oronoco and the inexpensive Shellback lately. I am not a huge rum fan though. I love a classic mojito and Cuba Libre from time to time. I love the look of the bottles/labels more than anything.
