The Hammond Rouse's finally finished the renovations - RIP Leblanc's - and opened the hot bar - anything worth trying? At $6.99 a pound seems like it could get pricey. Also how are the items at the bbq counter? Have heard mixed reviews on that.

Rouses tends to be overpriced IMO. Anything on that bar can be made at home for significantly cheaper. But if you need a quick lunch it’s decent

You're paying to not have to make it at home.

I don’t fault them for trying to make money. But the hot bar is more expensive than it is at similar grocery stores, and it’s not as good for the price as going out to eat. Just my opinion though

It doesn't cost the same as going out to eat. Or are you stuffing 3 pounds into your box?

Someone didn’t like that $6.99 lb at Airline the other day because there was an overstuffed box shoved behind the Grape Nuts when I was purusing the cereal aisle. Smelled like pot roast and since the shelf seemed to be sagging I’m guessing they realized is was several pounds.

You have to stay away from the heavy food. I saw a lady loading up on the cheesy noodles, I bet she put on about ten bucks worth. I get the fried catfish on Fridays. I can get about four or five fillets for about five bucks. The BBQ beef riblets are good.
There is no weighing scale near there for a reason.

This....Some foods are just heavier, like dishes with thicker gravies. I had a buddy load up on mash potatoes & gravy and was so pissed that he chucked them across the parking lot.

So you're buddy loaded up on mash potatoes and gravy (why?), then paid for it, then got pissed at the money he spent for his box of potatoes so he threw it across the parking lot?

I've never had a salad cost more than $3.50, but then again I eat like a bird compared to most Americans.

The pulled pork if it is like Ponchatoula is a very good deal. I think $2.99 a pound or something. You can't cook it for that.

That is at the deli counter not on the actual hot bar.

Needed a side item to go with the main coarse at home. I thought the same thing, but anger took over I guess. Maybe had other things going on in his life and overpaying for Mash Taters set him off.

They have thick cut bacon for breakfast, which doesn't weigh much. Can load up on that for cheaper than buying a pack. Ralph's stop putting it on theirs cuz they said it was costing them.

I have been disappointed in some of the hot bar item as well as stuff under the deli counter. The fried chicken is pretty good, the fried catfish breading is too thick for my tastes. Things like the stuffed potato were dry, the brisket was very fatty, not from the plate end, some of the cold salads were just bland.

Maybe the cook staff at yours is better, you'll have to try it out.
