I think I will, but first the wife wants crawfish enchiladas and a pie. So it looks like I am starting there.

Anybody know what those banners across the top right corner of the cover signify? I've seen at least 4 kinds of covers -

no banner
lite
lagniappe
favorites

Are these different versions of the book with different recipes included?

I just did a search to possibly order this cookbook. Some of these are listed at over $100. Excuse my ignorance on the subject, but anyone have any explanation?! Seems like an interesting topic.
It's out of print and I would presume unlikely to be reprinted anymore because of the colorful end to Roger's life.

Although he was popular on TV.

I just checked my recipe collection - I have 2 of the books. One is a 1994 version of the original, which was printed in 1987.

The other is the 1992 version of the "Lite" edition, originally released in 1989. The lite version includes recipes modified by Roger to be more fat and cholesterol healthy.

I make his shrimp and corn soup. It’s mostly cans. He loved using canned goods. I’ll have to look at my book to see when it was. Also have my mother in laws which is signed.

Saw his wife Diane Dearon yesterday at LaMadeline.

I had that cookbook at one time, but can't find it now. Wish I could order one

Man, I remember watching the news with my mom as a child, and always loved when he would taste his dish and do this. Always preceded by “mmmm MMMM

RIP Vernon. It’s a bummer the way he went. Must’ve been a really sad guy.

First it was Julie and Julia.

Now we get Ross and Roget.

When the movie comes out, you can trace it back to this thread.

So, this weekend I am doing the black eye peas jambalaya and the chocolate cheesecake.

Can anyone tell me where he is coming up with whipping cream? There is no mention of how much or anything, hah. I think he was drunk when he made this recipe.

I’m guessing a few tablespoons to thin and incorporate the chocolate.

Or whipped to soft peaks and fold the chocolate in to make it a bit less dense.

Either way would work I believe.

And Julia Child did not like Julie Powell or her book Julie and Julia. Fun fact. Roger’s dead so I don’t think he’ll mind.

He had his problems. I worked with a very good friend of his. Everyone knew his troubles, no one but his wife knew how far they went.

He would say this when he tasted what he had cooked. Good memories.

Every single time he said that, my dad would look over at me and say. “You know what he just said?”
I’d say “No, what?”
Dad would say “ooooh wee, goddamn that’s good!!!”

I have one of these cookbooks. Roger's Cajun Cookbook Favorites. It is missing the back page(s). The last page I have is the order form. Can you tell me what comes after that?

antiquetiger is hoping you will sell them to him for a nickel each, so he can turn a profit on resale.

I've been trying to get a hold of his original cook book for years now. My job takes me into lots of different homes, and if I see a lot of cook books, I always ask if they have Vernon Roger's and if I can buy it from them. It's always a resounding "NO!".

OP: Just start at number 1 and go from there. If you want to break it up, do the first one from each section, then the second from each section...etc.

We have four of his cookbooks. Every once and a while I'll pull one out and cook a recipe.

Yes, they are different versions with mostly different recipes. We have four of the cookbooks, missing the "Favorites", but we have the "Holiday" edition
