Not bashing him, but this is exactly what I was thinking as soon as I read white water rafting.

If you can get away with 100 bucks, why not overbook tell them it is gonna be a 2 hour wait apologize and then profit. Not a great long term business model, but neither is 100 dollar charge per person. especially if it isn't a party.

Some of y’all really don’t understand how this works.

But why? I’ve never met more paranoid people with their fricking credit cards.

Was my anniversary. Maybe next time. Thanks for the invite

We had charcuterie board & caprese salad with Malbec wine, veal piccata and veal Marsala, cannoli with cappuccino. Excellent food and service. No reservation either. Lol.

Agree. Why would this be a dealbreaker if you plan to show up anyway?

Personally, if I'm missing a reservation at a nice restaurant at the last minute, it wasn't for no reason. It's not a big deal in general, but $150 for a couple is ridiculous. And this isn't meant to be offensive, but especially in Lafayette. In most cities really.

Insane the amount of money they put into that building for 75 seats, I hope it works out for them.

But you can call and let them know this. The policy says they charge for no call, no show. Not for people who give a call and let them know something urgent came up.

Sure. I imagine I would. I just don't think I'd bet $150+ that any situation that came up would put me in a position to call or even think about calling at that moment. Or have to deal with convincing them to refund me after the fact.

Just seems like something that would steer me elsewhere at that amount. I don't mind restaurants charging in that situation as long as it's stated like this case. $75 per is still kind of crazy, though. I'd show up the next day wanting $75 of to-go or something.

Yep.

Certain threads, this being one, often serve as reminders that a significant portion of the people on this site are up there in age, and have kind of stagnated in their views on many aspects of life.

And this isn’t to say that everything new is necessarily better. I just find it odd when people not only refuse to try something new, but revel in, and celebrate, their refusal to do so.

You see it in this thread, where joe decided to have an anniversary dinner at the local mom and pop joint and laughed about it, because reservations weren’t needed, unlike at the new trendy place. And this isn’t to say that the mom and pop joint isn’t good, or that the trendy place isn’t bad. But damn, why not do something a little out of the ordinary for a celebration?

Pretty sure we made up for the cancellation considering our bill was over $800.

Now imagine you didn’t reschedule, the restaurant had held your table & turned down other reservations because yours was booked. Lets say two 4-tops that otherwise would have been your 8top.

So not only are they out your reservation, they’ve turned other ones down & have to rely on a walk-in to potentially fill that void that you had been scheduled for.

Good for you for going back. Not everyone does. And that is lost revenue for them directly due to you.

Joe doesn’t need a trendy place to have his picture on Facebook. Joe looked at the menu online but nothing looked to be outstanding which he HAD to have to eat. Joe KNOWS the mom and pop has excellent food and most of the time above par service. Again, why would joe risk losing money on a no-show reservation? Also again, they chose a business model I don’t care for. To each their own.
