Mansur's on the Boulevard and I second Galatoire's Bistro.

Does Acme Oyster serve crawfish? That might be a possibility.

Good to know. I will pass that note on.

when he decides on one it might be a good idea to come back on here and inquire about dress code, or check out the websites.

Think Galatoires and Little Village aren't required, but you wouldn't look out of place. Although people wear sports coats and jeans there (wtf?). Personally I would go with Little Village because they usually have tons of specials and things come out pretty good everytime.

Maison Lacour is dress up dining, there is also Latil's Landing, but it is a pretty good drive and probably not worth it with so many options in BR to try.

I think the problem right now is lack of supply so finding decent crawfish is going to be hard.

of course, WalkOn's wouldn't stoop to thie level of small crawfish just to make a buck

Upscale Dinner:
Little Village (italian, but awesome steak specials)
Galatoire's Bistro (nice creole dinner)
Ruths Chris (steak)
Flemings (steak)
Juban's (seafood, quality has dipped lately)
Tsunami (not really upscale, best sushi/atmos in town)

Louisiana Lagniappe is good food - not upscale.
Texas De Brazil is not upscale

Afternoon Crawfish:

Sammy's on Highland - Definately.

Sammy's is a bet.

Upscale, Jubans is a good call. I would imagine that your friend, being an out of towner, would want a more local type flavor, so I wouldn't even bother mentioning the upscale chains like Ruth's Chris, etc. I am a big fan of Mansur's on the Boulevard. As for Gallatoire's Bistro, I've never been there but have been told by more than a few people (some on this board even) that its not that great, even less so if you compare it to any meal from the original one, but again, I have no first hand experience with it..

Just curious, what makes a restaurant "upscale" ?

Is it price, atmosphere or both?

I would say atmosphere and style of food. Basically a place where there is a dress code or a self imposed one.

It's a shame that a coat and tie is out of style. I grew up going to dinner with a jacket and tie and many times I still wear one. I'm going to Nino's tonight and I'll have a sportcoat and slacks on.

I agree with the recommendations above and will add French Market Bistro which is really nice as is Ruffino's.

Galitore's and Juban's would be my top choice with Mansur's close but the lack of dress code there really does turn me off. Baseball caps on backward and AC/DC t shirts aren't to appealing to look at during dinner.

Lagniappe is definitely not "upscale" although the food is good.

I'd say Juban's is your best bet.

FWIW... he's not throwing up the shocker... he's with the Arizona State track teams throwing up the pitchfork.. it's sort of like their version of hook 'em horns

God I hate that place with a passion...

Concerning the original post, Sammy's would probably be your best bet for crawfish. A little pricier than some places but consistently good.
