Regarding restaurant rec requests...

I love the support here for restaurant recommendations. But perhaps if you're requesting a place to eat in ___ city, tell us what side of town you're on, how much you want to spend, or a culinary path you want to take.
"I'm in downtown Dallas and I need a upscale steakhouse".
versus
"I need a restaurant in Dallas"
There's like thousands of restaurants in Dallas. If you're downtown or near DFW that's a totally different world.

Why stop there? Why not also require posters to provide:
- Exact address of where you are staying and radius of miles willing to travel
- How many people will be in your party and their ages
- Any medical conditions and food allergies
- Sexual preference

It's not an unreasonable request. The first couple of replies are usually trying to elicit that information to provide a good rec.

Those items in bold are useful as well.
I travel a lot and when guys come on here and say "I need a restaurant in New York" it's like wtf man there are 20,000 spots in NYC and the greatest restaurant critics are not going to help you let alone a bunch of OT Ballers.
Put quite simply, I want to help but I can't unless it's a city smaller than Hammond LA or if it's Baton Rouge (the answer is always Supper Club in BR).
"I want a French Quarter restaurant to have lunch with my wife"
"I want a steakhouse for a client dinner in NYC midtown"
"I want to take my kids to a fun place in Destin"
Versus "I need a restaurant in NOLA/NYC/Destin".
Gives us a little something to work with.

Well if you know the area you want to eat in, sure. It will definitely narrow it down.
But the problem with that is you may not get a great recommendation because it's not in the area you thought you wanted.
Sometimes people may want to get ideas to know what area of town the should go to. If you don't know much about the city, you may want to get ideas of areas before picking one.
If you think someone's request is too vague to answer, simply don't answer.

Exactly. OP is a bit petty and overthinking this. If I want to start a thread to get restaurant recommendations, I'm going to put as much detail as I need to get what I want.
I don't think the demands of the OP are necessary. Every restaurant recommendation request is different, but most people just want any and all recommendations IMO. If they want more information, they'll ask.

Or, the OP can do a little legwork on their own? Use the search function and google maps?

Grow up. Others are asking for help every day on here. I'm trying to help. I've only asked that, in cities where there are something like 10+ million people, you give us some idea of where you are and what you want.
It shows that you have little experience in other cities when you think we should just blindly spout restaurant ideas when it could take 3+ hours to get across a city like LA, New York, London, etc...
And it's ridiculous to assume that the guy with three teenagers at travel ball weekend wants to go to a romantic french bistro and eat little dishes by candlelight.
Otherwise I'm going to respond to every restaurant request from now on with "Sbarro" because many airports have them and supposedly it's the best pizza in New York.

Some level of detail definitely helps, for sure, but it won't keep me from answering a question.
Chicago, for example, is such a neighborhood-centric city, but many weekend visitors simply don't leave The Loop, River North or Magnificent Mile. Totally fine, but it's good to know before I, or anyone else from here, start rattling off restaurants in North Center or Ravenswood and you aren't willing to take the Brown Line.
