Red Stick Social has laid off most of its staff, manager Will Durham tells Daily Report, as the establishment pivots to focus on special events.

The restaurant and bar located within Electric Depot has been temporarily closed, says Durham, as management grapples with finding a profitable operations model while adhering to the governor’s phase restrictions.

While the business will be open for special events, like Mid City Makers Market this weekend, Durham says it will remain closed until it can operate closer to how it did prior to the pandemic.

How can a giant bowling alley, bar, concert venue, and restaurant operate when bowling and concerts are illegal, restaurants are at a tiny capacity, catered events are basically not permitted, and bars have to close at 10:00pm?

It was never well-managed, but it's impossible to run a profitable legitimate business when the government essentially outlaws it.

I think the space itself is really nice, but I agree.

Most smaller bars/restaurants have the ability to be at least somewhat picky as to who they hire. Without bartending experience, you're not serving drinks at any of the popular places, for example.

But these big places like RSS, Top Golf, L'Auberge, etc. need such a large number of employees to open up that they are forced to hire people who aren't from the service industry prior. In the times I've been to RSS, the people behind the bar must not even go out in their free time.

We had a bartender not know what a mimosa was when we ordered it due to the "bottomless mimosas" sign behind him..

I sure hope TopGolf doesn’t go out of style anytime soon. Could you imagine how a vacant TopGolf would look? Those properties are huge and that gaudy net can be seen from space.

It's only a matter of time before that whole area resembles the rest of that area 1 or 2 blocks behind government. They can road diet, and add as many trendy little restaurants they want. They can't delay the inevitable. At least not with this local government.

aren't there other restaurants at that development? Or is there just a coffee shop?
