Looks like I'm going to Voodoo Fest this year (from out of town) and would like to get some casual dining recs for lunch for a first NOLA first timer (not me)

We'll probably be getting in Thursday night and would like to do 1 fine dining place. I was thinking of going somewhere I haven't been yet like Bayona or Herbsaint for that meal. Any other ideas? BTW she isn't a huge seafood fan.

Then why are you still with her?

For fine dining, I recommend "Brigstens" located in the Riverbend area at the end of Carrollton where it meets St. Charles Ave.

The food there is excellent, but a bit on the $$ side, but well worth it in my opinion.

As for casual dining, you have your choice of hundreds of nice mom and pop restaurants, local cafes etc., but stay away from those "chain restaurant" places. Their food, in my opinion pretty much is generic and sucks.

I'm allergic to a lot of it myself

She eats oysters and crab but that's about it

My wife LOVES N7. It's not white table cloth, but it's very nice.

For the casual meals go to Mo Pho and Blue Oak as they are close to City Park

I have to admit I'm not that impressed with the lineup

I know she wants to see APC and I would like Arctic Monkeys but the rest looks like dog shite

Probably should have mentioned she's from Austin

Don't think I'm going to impress her with NOLA BBQ

You are probably right.
Damn good wings, grilled brussel sprouts, and beer though

I'm sure we won't do all NOLA cuisine stuff so I'll keep the recommendation in mind

It's pricey but Toup's Meatery is right around City Park.

I was coming back to suggest this.
Also on the other end of Carrolton is Boucherie, which I've only been to once, but enjoy it.

That's a place I've been meaning to try

I'm not so much worried about price but we're probably only packing one set of dress attire so as long as casual dress is allowed I'm game for anything

I've been about 5 or 6 times, just not to the new location

It's definitely one of the places I've considered

Katie’s
Venezia’s
Mandina’s
Bevi seafood
Brown butter
Ed’s Oyster house
Santa Fe
Lola’s
Cafe Dega’s
1000 Figs

Here are some to choose from in that area

Not a huge fan of Toups tbh esp for a date. For entrees they just plop down a big piece of meat on top of some type of veggie, risotto or rice. Very Underwhelming

If you go, hit the small plates , meat board & sides hard and maybe split a entree if you must.

We're big on charcuterie boards so that sounds like a winner

Herbsaint out of these two.

I would throw in:

Coquette
Commander's Palace
as your high end options

and
Cochon Butcher
Bevi Seafood
Parkway Bakery (come at me)

As your casual.
