Driving to Memphis in July. Was seeing of anyone could recommend a local place to have lunch. Any cuisine is welcomed. I'm just noticing other than Jackson, it'll be mostly small Mississippi towns along the way.

Thanks in advance!

Any of John Currence's joints in Oxford, Mississippi. We had a nice meal at Big Bad Breakfast on our way to Memphis a few years ago.

How is this general? It's a 5.5 hour drive straight up Mississippi. I'm sure it's not hard for someone to recommend a place if they are familiar with the route or traveled it recently.

Vishwesh Bhatt (chef at Snackbar) just won James Beard award for best chef south. He is a John Currence mentee and Snackbar is in the Currence tree of restaurants.

This actually might be a winner based on time we are leaving Baton Rouge and arriving around Jackson

Char, Walker's Drive In , both easy to get on/off I-20. Both very good, local food.

Best secret in Mississippi. Tribecca Allie Cafe in Sardis. Outstanding food, especially the Magnolia Rosa Insalata pizza.

I’d check out Lou's Full serve on fortification. It’s near the interstate. Save room for dessert

LINK

Other options are Saltine, Babaulu, Barrelhouse, Pig and Pint, and Walker’s in the Fondren area—also near the interstate

Walker’s in Fondren is really cool. Great redfish. Best drink menu in jackson is at Manship in Belhaven area of jackson, and their food is amazing too. Shapleys is another one on the route that is easy to get to that is the best steak in town. Local 463 is also easy stop off the highway and it has a unique menu. You have so many options.

Jackson has incredible food for its size and the reputation of the city. It’s truly a hidden gem when it comes to food at least
