You can order la Barbeque ahead of time for pickup too but not same day. Or every time I've tried same day isn't available.

Leroy & Lewis is really good but it's not exactly classic central TX bbq. They put a bit of a twist on it although it's a good twist. Hard to rank against the classics if you're a purist. Def worth trying though.

Anyone try Sam's BBQ on E 12th? Been curious and there's speculation they may close. "You don't need no teeth to eat my beef."

correct

they are great if you've had all the others and are looking for some quality variety

Terry Blacks is pretty meh when compared to the others.

It’s a tourist restaurant now.

Ate there during Spring break just before Covid. Call it touristy if you like but it was every bit comparable to LA BBQ and Insterstellar in Austin and the top end joints around Houston.

I suspect it's getting the "touristy" label because they don't operate by the 11AM to sold-out model that so many BBQ joints do.

I disagree with this entire statement. I think Terry Blacks has the second best brisket in the city.

It gets no love here, but Cooper's really good and convenient if you are in downtown.

So if you guys only had time for ONE BBQ spot in Austin, and you're staying downtown, where are you going.

If I'm not in a hurry, I'd grab an Uber and go to LA BBQ. If I only have time for a 45 minute or so lunch I'd go to Coopers.

If I'm going to the expense of traveling and want to brag when back home then I'm ordering ahead from Franklin or la BBQ. I'm not waiting in line.

Otherwise, probably Terry Black's. It's really good, just across the river and unless you're there at a rush time there's probably no line.

Hopefully trying Rolling Smoke for lunch tomorrow.

If y’all go to Rollin Smoke don’t skip the tacos. Order an extra in fact.

I went to Franklin end of April & walked right in. Was about 4 pm, so not sure what wait would be at 6 or 7. It did not suck

Doesn’t Franklin close at like 2?

Is the quality that much better than a spot like Terry Black's? (Given you have to wait for hours at Franklin's and can generally just walk into Terry Black's.)

Have had everything at each and it was a wash

Terry black’s is solid, both the bbq and atmosphere, and an easy walk from downtown. It’s where I take out of town visitors when they come

La Barbecue is the best I’ve had in Austin (including franklin). The line is usually 45 minutes or so and it’s in the sun..so I generally stick with T Black’s

Have you been to LA BBQ since they moved to the new location? I haven’t, just wondering if it’s any different.

Went to Terry Black’s a few weeks ago and line was about 30 minutes, partially in the sun.

The beef rib was outstanding. We barely touched the brisket we ordered because the rib was so good, but the brisket was also solid.
