Great job Myth. I'm 1.2 lbs from a massage. I made bet with myself that at every ten lbs dropped I would treat myself to a 60min massage. I'm now 258/241/185.

That's awesome (108lbs in ten months). I'm trying to loose at least two lbs per week. I read an article that said that a person should not try to do more. Have you heard that before?

It really depends on your starting weight.

Some people will initially lose more than that and the longer you are on a diet and lower your weight gets, the harder it is to even lose 2 pounds per week.

It takes a 3500 calorie deficit to lose a pound so 2 pounds a week is 7000 calories or 1000 per day. Which is hard to do unless you are really heavy.

I lost 19 pounds my first month but based on my weight I needed over 3500 calories a day just to maintain my weight. So it was easy to cut out 2000 or more calories a day to lose weight.

Now it is closer to 2150 to maintain my weight thus much harder to cut out 1000 calories a day to lose 2 a week.

I'm using the LoseIt app on my phone to track everything I eat. I have found (to my horror)that I ate way too many calories on things that I thought were "Low Fat" or healty. The change in eating (smarter decisions) habits has been unreal for me. I now find myself not eating enough calories (according to my RN wife) because I'm full. Last week I was 4500 cals under my target.

Thanks for the info.

My horror was actually counting my sodium intake before I started this diet.

I ate a lot of processed canned food.

I added up that some of the meals I used to eat had 4500 to 6000 mgs and 2400 is the daily RDA. Actually at my age 1500 is the RDA so 4500 to 6000 in one meal was insane.

Lucky my heart didn't slpode all over the place.

Your body definitely adjusts to the lower calories. I am rarely hungry. I did throw myself out of that balance over XMAS and New Years. Took me most of this month to get back to not being hungry but I think I am there.

Man I am glad to hear this. I thought I'd gotten into permanent feeling hungry. My exercise routine, such as it was, got all screwed up with the time change, the holidays and it being so stinkin' cold here.

So first weight post is:

195/195/170

I don't know if this is even realistic. Just pulled the last number out of my head.

Talking about sodium and all that crap like processed foods, the first time I did Weight Watchers and had great success (50 lb loss), an old old lady told me that she always went by the saying "The whiter the bread, the quicker you'll be dead." And if you think about that it's very true. So I cut out white bread (obviously), white rice, white potatoes, etc. You would not believe the difference it made.

Some weight loss plans advise you to set your goal at 10% of your starting weight and then see how you feel and are maintaining before readjusting that goal. So in your case you could readjust your goal to 175.5. Just trying to help.

You prompted me to do some quick research. Very quick.

One site said between 166 and 186 is my range. So I will stick with the 170 for now.

Thanks.

Myth, I don't advise what I'm doing which is essentially fasting this week. I need to be under 200 by March 1 to start my bike training program so I'm pulling out all the stops. For example yesterday I ate:

- protein bar: 150 calories
- 4 cups coffee: (lets say 75 calories x 4) 300
- protein drink: 170
- small package mixed nuts: 200

My total caloric intake for the day was only around 800 calories (i'm being generous on those calorie numbers so its probably even less than that).

The downside is my energy level is down and I'm starting to feel a little nauseated but once you get past a day, your body sort-of stops craving food so I'm in a weird state at the moment.

Oh well, I'll sort out the damage later..right now I'm trying to drop lbs

This seems like a waste to me. Much better use of 300 calories is available.

I love coffee, but drink it black. No way i'd waste calories on coffee.

I'd go with a sandwich and a No-Doze.

What do you put in your coffee? By itself, coffee is only 2 calories per 8oz. Some Equal/Splenda for 0 calories, and a splash of milk/cream for 25 calories or less and your done.

BTW- I don't drink coffee much, but when I do, I use fat free half & half and equal.

Cad

I just recently became addicted to coffee but I only add a couple of splenda to my giant mug of java.

I fasted for about 3 days after the news years pig out.

The first day I really wasn't hungry because the 2 previous days I had eaten enough black eyed peas, rice and sausage to feed an army. So day 1, I was actually still full.

Day 2, I also was not the least bit hungry until about 2 or 3 am I woke up starved but I fell back asleep and when I woke up the cravings were gone.

I wasn't really doing this for any dietary reasons. Once I did the first day, I was just intrigued to see how long I could go with no food before I was too hungry to continue.

Day 3, I got a bit nervous and looked some things up on the net, and by the 3rd day some people can experience blackouts from being weak. Well, I had to drive all over the place so at this point I decided to end the experiment.

But I went about 72 hours with nothing but coffee and to tell the truth I wasn't hungry when I stopped.

Now, stop dumping all that cream in your coffee. Heck even non dairy creamer has only a few calories and 1 carb.

oh.....
