do you have before and after pictures?

I just found some photos of me at a wedding in 2007. I was probably about peak then. So I do have some before and after shots.

do you want to lose more after that or are you done?

That was just the first goal. I just basically made the number up when I started and stuck it in the goal section of the website I use.

My plan is to continue the diet for one full year which means I won't stop until March 16. I would like to get to 185, but no matter what, I am stopping at the one year mark and will move to maintenance at that point.

Congrats to you Hawk!

Damn! I am really freaking weak today. I may need to up the calories some because I think a 3 year old girl could kick my arse and take my lunch money this morning.

Help! The 3 huge cans of pistachios arrived today from our client! When it was announced, I promptly trotted (like a little pig) to the kitchen to get some & have made 3 trips back this afternoon. I have asked people to say "Fattie fattie, 2 by 4" if they see me there anymore. Any advice? I'm OOC - they are a major temptation.

next time you make a trip, down a HUGE glass of water before you open the can. maybe that'll fill you up a little so you'll only eat a few?

(i need to take my own fricking advice)

Good idea about the water - I'll try it. I'm also going to try to treat them like Lay's potato chips - knowing that I can NOT eat just one.

220.2 this morning. I thought about taking a leak and getting back on the scale, but I decided to keep it honest I do have to credit all the stress from a medical ethics term paper for my losses the past few days though. Glad that damn thing is done

I had a little trouble gettin past my 215-217 plateau, so I decided to take SW2CLAs advice and switched it up to a low carb. I pushed through and currently 232.4/212.4. I hit the 20 lb mark.

Same for me. Still around 248. I need to get re-motivated. I was so intense in the beginning, but it's worn off. sigh

excellent. if you stall out on atkins; try upping your exercise and hitting a protein shake afterward or a big-arse ribeye.

i can't count the number of times i played a little basketball with friends after work..came home and ate a MONSTER 16-20oz ribeye..and then woke up the next morning 1-2 lbs lighter.

gotta love atkins

What is exactly is the Atkins diet? I've never read up on it and I'm wondering how close my diet is to it. I think it's pretty similiar, but I've never seen a food list or anything

short story is its pretty simple:

try to keep carbs under 20-30 a day so your body is 'forced' into a ketogenic state (atkins calls it 'ketosis') which turns your metabolism into a fat-burning machine since you're starving it from the simple carbohydrate/sugars that it would normally burn first.

thats about it. the rest of the book is devoted to levelling off your 'low carb' intake as you reach your goal weight and slowly adding more fruits and veggies back in.

eta opponents (notably loud-mouth dean 'asshat' ornish) claim it causes everything from gout to kidney stones and is inherently unhealthy.

my question to dickhead is most people i know that went on this couldn't lose weight any other way...but they lost a TON of weight doing this..and lost it pretty quickly..so whats worse? being extremely obese and doing the 'low fat' thing because you're scared you *MIGHT* get a kidney stone from the high-protein or dropping a shitton of weight quickly before you develop heart disease or diabetes or other obesity-related problems??

i'll take the massive weight loss for $100 alex and then re-regulate my diet/eating once i'm 75 lbs lighter.

again, once you're at your goal weight and things have settled down, you can pretty much eat any way you like..just watch the scales and cut back if you start gaining.

I started this regimen on Atkins and stayed on it for 6 or 7 weeks, but I tired of the limited diet. I started counting calories and have done very well, averaging 10 lbs a month. Atkins works for some people, but I think a broader diet is long term healthier.

Im sure it is too, I just needed a kick in the pants. Kind of like exercise, change it up a bit when you start to plateau.

That's the only real difference between my diet and Atkins then. I eat a little fruit, but a lot of veggies everyday. The fruit is always with breakfast or lunch. This also my only source of carbs. I eat 0 bread, pasta, cereals, etc.

Maybe if I hit a serious plateau later on I'll switch to full-blown Atkins for a while to switch it up, but what I'm doing is working is fine for now.

honestly..it sounds like you're doing the right thing..eating stuff that you can identify..fresh fruits and veggies..meats..dairy..just avoid the freaking canned veggies and processed food and you'll be ok.

i think processed foods have done more to contribute to obesity in this country than anything else. whatever happened to simple ingredients and knowing everything you were putting in your body?
